No sunscreen until at least 6 months is a real thing, right? Not just a bump thing? I just saw a fb pic of a 4 month old basically sunbathing with only a diaper on. The parents are pretty responsible people so I have to guess he at least had sunscreen on...

Ok, good to know. I feel like sometimes there are things I learn on here that people IRL seem not to know anything about. I try not to be too judgy with other people's parenting, but I gave that one a long side-eye. My cousin actually lives in Norway and her pedi said no sunscreen until 1 year.

It also could have been just a photo. Maybe baby was in the shade except for the photo.

I was told sunblock at six mos and sunscreen an one year.

But they are so often mislabeled. Even a really good sunblock we have says sunscreen and a really cheap one I saw today said sunblock.

Yes, technically both are considered sunscreen. What we call sunscreen is known as chemical sunscreen, and what we call sunblock is know as physical sunscreen.

We used CA baby sunblock at 2 months on both my kids. Florida sun is unforgiving. They survived.

We were told to try to avoid situations where direct sun exposure for any significant length of time was necessary for the first six months...but that if we were in that situation, that using sunblock (zinc/titanium dioxide only) was much more preferable than going without.

This is what I'm thinking. Either that or baby has jaundice or something and the doctor okayed 5 minutes of sun per day.

I was thinking this. Maybe. But the baby's out on a mat, eyes shut, arms splayed out. It doesn't have the feel of 'just for a picture.' And he doesn't look at all jaundiced, but who knows.
