Eating schedule

My son turned 6 weeks old on Friday. Since that day exactly he has been sleeping alot more and doesn't eat as often or as long. I'm breastfeeding and this is starting to take a toll on my breasts as they get super hard and full now since we went from the eating all the time thing to this so drastically.
I'm thinking he isn't eating as long because they are so full and maybe he's getting more in a shorter time. But I'm not sure.

Is this normal? Is this how babies are during a growth spurt? He's not fussy at all, almost in a better mood in his short awake time than before.

Re: Eating schedule

  • That's not how our growth spurt was, in fact it was the other way around where she'd eat constantly and be really really fussy when she wasn't eating. I think your boobs will start to regulate themselves if your LO does start to eat less frequently, but if you are worried about your supply you could always pump the excess milk when he's not eating? That might leave you with an oversupply though.

  • My LO's growth spurts are like PP. She wants to be on the boob all.the.time and is super fussy when she's not. But if your breasts are engorged, you could always pump just enough to feel comfortable and that way you won't be encouraging an oversupply.

  • Hmmm...now that I think about it maybe I'm a dumb dumb! Haha I bet the week or two prior to this was the growth spurt and now he's over it!

    Thank you guys!
