Weaning questions

I would like to wean dd from bfing by the end of July. I am starting a new job and it might be tricky creating a pumping schedule. A couple questions:
If I want to be done by the end of the month, when do I start replacing feelings?
Which feeding should I start with replacing?
She is great at her sippy cup. Are we at a point where we can skip bottles and go straight to sippy cups?
TIA!!

  • I think you could go to sippy cups at this point. Personally I would try to replace middle of the day feedings since you should still be able to feed her in the morning and at night  when you are with her (so you would have more time to ween completely). Kellymom says you should cut no more than 1 feeding every week so that is what I would do.

  • How many times does she nurse a day? I'd replace one a week or one every four or five days, depending on how many feedings you are trying to drop.

If you are prone to clogs, I'd take lecithin to prevent clogging as you drop feedings.

I'd read the Kellymom pages on weaning too.

She is nursing 5 to 7 times per day, so I will start replacing feedings this week. I am proned to clogs, thanks for recommending lecithin. I will check that out.

I get lecithin at Walgreens. I take two every day to prevent, and four when I feel a clog brewing.

I wish I knew about lecithin sooner. I got some wicked clogs when I went back to work after maternity leave and had to pump 3x per day. Thanks for the rec!!

  • If you're not sure, and wanna be certain that your baby eats enough and healthy you should use this: https://earlystart.me  Request an invite and they?ll give you instant access to the app by e-mail. It helped me a lot during the first months after introducing solids, it tells you exactly the amounts that your baby has to eat(milk+solids). Maybe it gives you some inspiration!
