Worried ..

I ate a sandwich today I put vinegar inside it. My brother said vinegar is bad for me especially now durning my pregnancy. I'm really starting to get worried cause after he told me that I started getting really sharp stomach side pains. I don't know if that's normal or not. I'm 20 weeks pregnant someone please help I'm too worried .

I've never heard of a little vinegar harming pregnant women. I know drinking too much can cause some problems but just in a sandwich..you'll be fine. Don't worry too much about it. If anything call your Dr. Monday for reassurance but I now many pregnant women that have had vinegar quite frequently with foods and been just fine. I have salads with balsamic vinegar once or twice a month and I'm just fine:)

I eat salads with balsamic vinegar all the time, I've never heard of it being bad and feel fine after.
  • Pickles are a staple of pregnant women. They are pickled in vinegar. Never heard of it being bad.

Heck, I've drunk the juice the pickles come in.  Nothing happened, other than I got thirsty.

Now, if you're having heartburn, I can imagine vinegar aggravating it, but that's a heartburn thing, not a pregnancy thing per se.

  • Is your brother a doctor?  Seriously why on earth would vinegar be bad for you.  Let's let common sense step in before we lose our mind.

    Vinegar can relieve heartburn.

  • Pssh I eat tomatoes covered in vinegar and it on my subs. However my MIL told me not to have too much in Spanish, so I'm not sure exactly why. And a friend said her Grandmother told her not to eat a lot of vinegar because it was bad for the babies skin. Since they're both Puerto Rican, it may just be a PR old wives tale. I'm sure you're fine & you're just getting regular growing pains.

That's good to know.  I have family with reflux and they avoid it (and all other acidic foods) so I assumed it was always the case that you couldn't drink/eat it if you had heartburn.

  • Your fine! I eat lots of vinegar all the time! When i was pg with DS1 someone told me I shouldn't eat spicy foods because it will make my son's eyes turn red. Shockingly he some how manages to have hazel eyes. I love advice others give. Enjoy your vinegar and have a chuckle out of it.
