Any moms have this when they were in the hospital? The hospital I'm delivering at has this so i can labor in the tub and walk around as needed. I'm a vbac and am grateful they offer this because I'm hoping it increases my chances of a med free delivery with being able to move around. Whats it like, distracting? Uncomfortable? Or wonderful?

My good friend just had a baby and used the telemetry unit. It was pretty awesome. It was exactly like regular EFM except instead of plugging into the bedside machine it plugged into a little box that one of us wore over our shoulder. She was able to get into any position with it including walking and the tub and shower. The only thing that was irritating is that the noise from walking was louder than the baby's heart tones so a nurse had to follow us with headphones on to listen to make sure the HR was good.

It's a great option for someone who needs continuous EFM.

I just had a med free VBAC delovery using wireless monitoring two days ago. It is definitely a better alternative to being fully plugged in but it's still kind of a pain in the butt to have anything strapped to you. I was able to get in and out of the shower as long as I kept the unit dry outside the curtain we had it on a pole. That being said I had wonderful nurses and midwives who let me kind of go on and off of the monitoring even though that was breaking VBAC protocol. If everything is going well and you can swing that, that is even better for a few stretches because I got sick of having to push the cords away from my belly when I want to kneel for a contraction. Just keep your expectations to what 'freedom' is with continuous monitoring low!

I used it during my labor. I was being induced and needed continuous monitoring, but the telemetry unit allowed me to labor in the jacuzzi tub. I had no desire to walk around which was good b/c the unit they had in my room wasn't fully charged and the nurses were afraid it was going to run out of power if I used it too long. I don't remember it being that annoying, but I was also in the tub with my IV poles next to me.

I had it with my birth, which included laboring in the tub. It was non-continuous monitoring until the last part, so the L&D nurse would just press it against me every so often.  It was a regular interval but I don't remember what it was! It didn't bother me at all. Toward the end of pushing they wanted to monitor continuously, so I had to have it strapped on. That was really uncomfortable, but I had other things to worry about then.

I ended up being induced, so I had to be continuously monitored. I used the wireless telemetry. It worked really well for me. I barely noticed it there and mine stayed put so well, they rarely needed to adjust it. I spend a good 5 hours in the tub laboring pain med free until I was ready to push. I would have preferred to have nothing, but the telemetry turned out to be NBD.

The type I had and used was fully waterproof and did not make any noise and had nothing dangling off of it. I am not sure if there are different kinds based on the answers from PPs.
