Tattoo while PG?

Anybody on here ever got a tattoo while pregnant? Just wondering... I have a visitor coming next week who holds the ashes to my BFF who passed away last year. She is giving the ashes to me in a vile of tattoo ink. So I'd like to get the tattoo before the ink dries out. Just wondering if anyone has had a tattoo done while pregnant.

No and I would NEVER do it. There is a risk of infection when not pregnant let alone while pregnant. Also, I would think that ink with ashes in it would increase the chance of an infection. Most reputable tattoo artists will not tattoo a pregnant woman.

Edit: Perhaps speak to an artist about the best way to preserve ink for a lengthy period of time if it's possible.

    All of the above.

Amend that statement to reputable because some will but you don't want those doing your art work!

You are correct Cashing. I didn't even think about that when I answered. My answer has been amended.

I agree with all of the posters above. It's a lovely sentiment, but definitely wait until you're not pregnant.

Also, your Channing Tatum is far too big. :)

  • I do not think tattoo artist can ink with ink that has ashes in it. after all you have to have a cert to have ashes in the first place. It's very unsanitary as well jus my opinion.

  • Can you even use ink with ashes in it in the first place? Sounds like it would be very unsanitary.

I honestly doubt you can and I don't think most shops will allow someone to bring their own ink anyway. I am sure there's a policy against it.

    Well one would hope.

  • I got 2 while in Thailand this past April. Safe, clean, reputable places and had no infection or issues. Every US I've had shows a healthy growing baby. You'll be fine :

Infection wise is not all about the needles, a tattoo can get infected and in pregnancy your immune system sucks. So that little infection yoou may get could possibly turn bad. Why take that chance?

I used to work in a tattoo shop. Do not get a tattoo while pregnant. Not only is there a higher risk of infection but it is a great shock for your body and can cause you to miscarry or start labor.

yes, because ultrasounds can clearly show infection, mircrobes, etc. passing through the placenta.... (sigh)  .. oh, and your experience clearly means that OP's experience will be "fine" because all experiences, even when under completely different circumstances, are the same....

Sorry, I'm lurking, but you are an idiot.

OP: Please don't get a tattoo while pregnant. The risks are too high. I don't know about how sanitary getting a tattoo with someones ashes are, but I hope you will discuss that with your doctor first, and find a super reputable shop and artist to tattoo you (as you should for any tattoo).  In relation to having the ink dry out, this article is more for tattoo artists, because most of the time other people don't have tattoo ink hanging out, but this may help.

  • I would ask your doctor. The answer is likely that it is a no. But people and the internet also say the same thing about infection and it being a big no-no to do laser hair removal and both of my OBs for each pregnancy have said it was safe. A tattoo is obviously more invasive so the risk will likely be higher. I would ask specifically about whether the pain could trigger premature labor. I would be more worried about that honestly than the risk of infection passing into your bloodstream. But I say that because I have never known of anyone who developed a systemic blood infection from a tattoo. Not to say it doesn't happen, but the risk just seems as low as a deep cut causing the same problem.

  • Seeing as you can't donate blood for a year after getting a tattoo, getting one while pregnant is a very, very bad idea.
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • No reputable tattoo artist would EVER tattoo a pregnant woman!!! If someone says they will I would question them seriously.. While I have a bunch and I think the pain would be tolerable, I wouldn't ever take the chance pregnant.. As for ink with ashes in it?!? I would seriously look into this pregnant or not that doesn't sound sanitary or safe at all...
  • So are you still planning on destroying your ss's life for $400 a month op?

I am glad your tight finances have improved so much that you can consider getting a tattoo. They can be expensive! Maybe that money could be better used somewhere else, given your current blended family problems?
  • This is still like the worst idea ever!

Took a few posts for me to realise that this was a resurrected post.
I missed this back then, but strangely enough one of my supervisors at work was seriously ill earlier this year. Systemic infection linked to his tattoos. We talked about it just this morning.

ETA: PP mentioned that this was unlikely. We had just talked this morning so that's why I mentioned it. I guess it can happen.
I also realise that the resurrection o the post was not as much to resurrect the topic but rather to make a point.

This is wrong on so very many levels.  Pregnant and ashes?  It's like we're living out "Ring around the rosey."  And we all know how that ended.  Black death for everybody.
    Um wut?

Have you never heard of the meaning/history of the song "Ring around the rosey"?  Pretty interesting.  Which made this comment pretty damn funny to me.

Yeah it's a song about the plague, but ashes were because they burned the corpses, not the infectious agent.  Fleas from rats carried the disease.

My sense of humor is very particular this morning.

Lol, I guess so.  Well, when not taken this literally, it was funny.  Considering how stupid the original question was.

To each his own I suppose. I would assume it would be a challenge to find an artist who would even consider it and I would  really be side eyeing any artist who would consider it and I wouldn't want them inking me up, if it were myself. There isn't too much longer to go, I would wait it out on this one.

This is why one should read other comments lol
I blame all of the drugs I was pumped with this weekend for my temporary decrease in IQ. Stop waking the dead! It confuses me... but in the spirit of Halloween I guess. I'm off to walk the plank... and get a cup of coffee. It's too early for this shit.

  • I can't believe people would actually consider doing this....you learn so much on this board. Need enlightenment on the human condition? Stop by dec13!
  • There was no need to bring a past post of mine into this, as I got flamed pretty bad for it last time. I decided to get tattooed abroad and that's my decision alone. I work in a hospital and talked to the radiologists I work for, a L&D doctor, and two ER doctors before my trip and all told me what to look for before and after I got tattooed. I don't post a lot but enjoy TB and am a FTM, due 12/22 with a girl.
  • And if you're talking about something you posted in this thread, tough shit...can't take posts out of threads.
  • Maybe I'm confused because I didn't repost that today about how I got tattooed in Thailand. I thought someone else quoted it in or used it as an example. That was from months ago and I was completely embarrassed by it. Moving on...

  • This shit is hilarious! We should have a throwback thread day where I can just laugh at crazy things, because I'm feeling a bit stabby today.

No way would I want to inject someone's ashes into my skin. That's some creepy stuff right there. And don't get me started on tattoos while pregnant, in the US or out of country. That's a whole level of weird I didn't even know existed!

I love you @cashingn2 creepy internet love ;)
