Two Under 2

Beach with two

I don't have two under two anymore, but figured this might be the place to ask this... I have a crawling 7 month old and a 2.5 year old. We live right down the street from a beach and my older son loves the sand, water, etc. I'm trying to figure out the safest way to take them both by myself. Has anyone used one of those mesh slings/wraps - my 7 month old still loves riding in the Ergo, so I was thinking I could wear him and then keep both eyes on the older one.

Any suggestions (other than not go :) )?

  • I had a water carrier when dd was an infant and it worked great. You could also get a puddle jumper for your older child.

  • I don't even try it. The park is one thing but I am a very parinoid mom so I don't take the boys down with out Dh or someone who would like to go down with me. That being said I went and got the boys mainly DS1 a small pool I can sit out in our lawn chairs next to the pool and watch him play while DS2 plays at my feet in the grass or I can sit in it with the boys and DS2 can enjoy the water while DS1 plays as well it works really well for us, and then I am also not tryin to battle the other people at the beach that honestly don't give a rat's a about weather my child is standing ankle deep in water they just plow over him anyway.

  • I attempted taking my DDs to the beach by myself when they were 22 months and 8 months......it sucked. Royally. In a super major way. I just wouldn't do it.

Maybe a sling would work. but I'd take someone else along the first time to see how the 7 month old does. If he does okay, then perhaps try it yourself another time. He may be a miserable mess and hate or fear the beach, in which case I say get a sitter for the baby and have a special outing with your oldest!
