special needs adoption and medicaid

Hi,

Would anyone know if you can still get Medicaid for a special needs baby if privately adopting? The baby would have lots of medical needs.

If you and/or baby would qualify for Medicaid otherwise, adoption would not impact that qualification. That said, my kiddo has special needs and doesn't qualify for services outside of his school IEP.

I believe this largely depends on the needs of the child. Also- it depends on your state. I know that some states provide medicaid for any child without insurance.

I know that in some states, if you adopt through foster care, the child will be eligible for Medicaid until age 21.
