I know some ladies are starting to think about registries. I came across these tips the April '13 board gathered and thought it was really useful info for us FTMs. I especially like the tip about moving up your due date to get the completion coupons early; I probably wouldn't have thought to do that!

Registry Tips
You hear a lot about what to put on a registry, but what about where to do one? Here is the inside scoop on baby stores and registry perks.
Stores- Babies R Us
- Target
- Amazon.com
- Buy Buy Baby
- Baby Depot
- WalMart
Pros- Babies R Us - 15% completion discount on remaining items without the exclusions of their normal coupons, widely available as stand alone stores or in Toys R Us stores, carry many popular baby gear brands with floor models you can try.
- Target - welcome goodie bag with registry creation, 10% completion certificate on remaining items, good baby related coupons through the mail and via text.
- Amazon.com - just about anything you could want in one place, free shipping on most purchases, 10% completion discount on remaining items.
- Buy Buy Baby - 15% completion discount on items left on your registry, the ability to use Bed Bath and Beyond coupons, competitor price matching, personal shopping help by appointment, carry many popular baby gear brands with most on floor model to try.
- WalMart - very widely available, site to store is a nice (and free) option for items only available online.
Cons- Babies R Us - tends to be much pricier than other stores, regular store coupons aren't good on toys, formula, diapers, wipes, most name brands, and other baby items.
- Target - items in the store cycle out very frequently leaving holes in your registry, the welcome goodie bags never seem to be in stock when you start your registry.
- Amazon.com - not all of your family/guests will want to or be able to shop online, returns are not easy, only baby related items work with completion certificate.
- Buy Buy Baby - tends to be pricier than other stores, physical stores not widely available leaving many people to shop online.
- WalMart - no completion discount, limited selection.
Do's and Don'ts- Do fudge your due date on your registry. Yes, it can be a bit confusing to family/shower guests, but completion discount coupons are usually sent out about 4 weeks before your due date and are only good for a short amount of time. Who wants to shop at 36+ weeks pregnant?!
- Do register at more than one place if you're not finding everything you want/need at one place.
- Don't feel bad about registering for big items. If you get them at a shower, that's great! If not, you can use the completion discount to purchase them.
- Don't forget about stores like Baby Depot (Burlington Coat Factory), Amazon, and Buy Buy Baby. Its not just about Target and Babies R Us!
- Do consider your location and the location of your family/shower guests when choosing a store with which to register.
- Do register for a variety of items in different price ranges, just like for a wedding.
- Don't be shy about registering for things like breast pads and booger suckers. You'll need those too.
- Don't register for too much clothing. Chances are, the season you are registering in is different than the season the baby will be born in. People buying gifts may not have the forethought to consider seasons and/or clothes may be out of stock by the time your shower comes.
