I'm not sure if this would be considered a hot topic but I want some opinions! One of my really good friends and SIL are both pregnant and about a month ahead of me! They are both getting inductions for no reason! Is this weird to anyone else? Because I think it is! My SIL actually asked me when I was planning on having the baby! I didn't even know how to answer, I was like ummm not sure I guess sometime around the due date. Lol

Edit: just to make this clear I do not want an induction! Just want to see how popular it is!

If there is no medical reason for it, then I think it's just the mom being selfish IMO. Let the baby come when it is ready or the doctor deems medically necessary.

Planned inductions are one of the leading causes for C-sections. So I would def not do it.

Completely agree. I have friends who have done the planned elective induction thing and I think it's unwise.

The only reason my doctor is going to induce me is if I get to 38 weeks with my girls because she said after that there is a risk they could be stillborn.. But I say if that baby is healthy keep it in the oven!!

ITA--and so do my doctors. I was induced with DD (10 days late) and it ended in a c/s. My doctors wanted to let her cook as long as possible and let my body try to go into labor on it's own, which I appreciate.

Planned inductions and C-sections for convenience's sake are just ridiculous. If mom and baby are both healthy, why intervene?

I kind of the like idea of being surprised on when my kid is born. I don't want to know in advance that the kid will be born on such and such day at a certain time.

I was induced 5 days after my due date with my first because my fluids were low. It wasn't a great experience so I think it is best to avoid them.

I'm completely against inductions unless there is a medical reason. I think it is important for the baby to come out when they are ready and full term.

I set an induction for my due date because both my sisters and my mom had c section from gojng over due. I had an 8 lb baby and was glad I didn't go over due. It wasn't the greatest experience but it did actually turn into a mandatory induction anyway because of my preeclampsia.

I will most likely have one. I have huge babies over 9lbs plus I am 41. They prefer delivery by 39 weeks.

I absolutely do not want to be induced unless I have to, so no way would I opt for an elective one! I honestly didn't even know that was possible.

I think unless you have a medical need, then you have NO need for an induction.

If it is for convienance sake then I think it is not okay. Just let the baby cook.

If it is medically necessary then I would follow doctor's orders. I would possibly get a second opinion JIC.

the "big baby" reason makes me want to barf.  You can push out a large baby, your body is made to do this. why not at least try? also, weight estimates are almost ALWAYS off, by a 1lb or more sometimes......and for the PP that said that 8lbs was big? LOL!

What does your sister's and mother's deliveries have anything to do with yours?

We may end up doing an elective induction because we are military and recently found out my husband will possibly be gone a few days after my due date and we want to have him present for the birth. Otherwise I wouldn't consider it unless medically necessary.

A c-section seems to me to be the reason to induce. Are they having c-sections too?

when i had my son 4 years ago, there were women getting elective inductions because their dr's were 'going on vacation'  so they had to schedule around this. sldkfjsklskld

I was induced last time for medical reasons and would never elect to do it again without a valid medical reason.  DD was sunny side up and would not come out.  She wasn't ready and neither was my body so we ended up with a c section.  The c section was easy and so was the recovery, but I am definitely hoping to go into labor on my own and have a vbac.  Luckily I was over my due date so DD was healthy and well over 9 lbs., but I still would have liked to go into labor on my own.  I can't imagine electing to induce for convenience.

Well, the joke's on them.  Inductions are not easy at all. Pitocin is evil.

This is so true. I was induced with PJ at 41+3 because his heart was not responding well to the stress tests. The induction lasted with no impact until 41+6 when I entered into WALL OF PAIN. I had absolutely NO contractions - I have contraction. Overall the birth was very fast but it was brutal too because I went from 1 cm dilation to a baby in my arms in less than 4 hours.

For my, waiting for my baby to arrive was one of those key first lessons on being a parent. Being a parent changes almost everything and trying to squeeze it between a holiday schedule or a work schedule....aint gonna work.
