"It's not uncommon for babies to start having sleep difficulties around their four-month birthday. This ages marks a huge cognitive and emotional turning point for babies, as they become much more aware of -- and interested in -- the world around them. It can also mean they'll sometimes want to play during the night. This is actually a good sign, because it means baby is bonding with you and having a good time during the day. However, it's challenging to cater to his desire to be with you around the clock."
Neither of my children experienced a 4 month wakeful that I noticed. My 5 month old still has the same bed time and still STTN, actually longer starting about 4 months. I noticed that he started to stay awake more during the day.

Same here. DS never woke up more, he actually started STTN at 4 months. He became more alert during the day, so I had to start nursing him in his room without any distractions.
Thanks to the 2 posts that said it wasn't traumatic at 4 mo. for them. I was starting to really freak out between all the "dreaded 4 mo. Wakeful" and upcoming shots. We shall see but so far so good.
DD didn't have any issues with the 4 month wakeful. She has been sttn since about 6 weeks and that didn't seem to change. She was staying awake better during the day though.
Re: What is 4month wakeful period
Just what it is titled. Here.
