Boating while pregnant?

Anyone know if this is okay? We are at the beach and our family has a boat... I figured I would call my midwife tomorrow and ask about this when they reopen, but didn't know if any mammas on here had experience. My mom is making a super big deal that I can't get on this summer... It's sort of like a fancier pontoon boat. Not a speedboat but not a sailboat either. I figured if it is choppy on the water I should hold off, we go in the bay/usually pass thru the ocean inlet so not a lake that's super calm.

  • I don't see why you couldn't. It is probably safer than driving on the freeway.

We're heading out on the pontoon in a few hours. It's no bouncier than my ol' '99 Chevy that I drive everyday, especially if you avoid crossing other boats' wake. Happy 4th!

  • You are totally fine on a boat. I am going down to spend time on my dads boat this weekend. I would stay away from sea doos and wave runners, but a regular boat should be fine.

  • Thanks ladies!!! I have loved our boat since I was a little girl so I would be super bummed if I had to miss out this summer. DH and my dad and little bros are out right now and they sent me up to the beach... Tomorrow!

  • I had the same concern about my inlaws' speed boat and asked my dr. She said it's fine just no skiing or tubing obviously. As long as you're feeling okay it should be fine!

  • We own a boat and I live in Louisiana where being on the lake is just a part of the summer. I asked my OB back in March about it and she said it was safe as long as it wasn't huge waves and I had a life jacket. Also she said to just be careful and hang on for balance reasons. As long as you aren't going super fast or as other ladies have said skiing or tubing obviously.
  • I went boating a couple of times last pregnancy - haven't had a chance this one. I wasn't ready for it - but I got really nauseous. I never have trouble on the water, but when pregnant my stomach just bounced with every little wave. No carsickness or morning sickness at all...only on the boat. Just a heads up, in case...

    I'm on a boat right now. I don't think it's a big deal.

  • I've been out on the pontoon all day. Perfectly safe. My midwife just said stay off the speedboats and jetskis, but pontoon or other slow boats are just fine. Have fun!
  • DH has a bass boat and I went out on it a few months ago, in the early stages of pregnancy with no issues.  If it ever stops raining around here I'm sure we will be taking it out again soon!  I think I'd be sad if someone told me I couldn't go out on the boat!

  • I have no plans to stop boating this summer! Now I won't tube or water ski...lol but just being on a boat especially a pontoon shouldn't be harmful!

  • My doctor told me to avoid speedboating bc the bumps could aggravate the placenta.

  • I went speed boating today. It wasn't on the ocean or anything I guess, but I can't imagine the bumps were any worse for my placenta than doing a few jumping jacks. I plan on more speed boating Saturday!

    Lol love the gif Mandi.

Thanks ladies, I am waiting for the midwife to call me back... Asked my best friend too who is in her family med/OB residency and has been on our boat and she said I am fine. Apparently according to dad and DH it's not similar to a pontoon boat because goes much faster, just looks like a fancier pontoon cause its a Donzi deck boat. It's similar to a Hurricane. I'm not super worried but DH and my mom are. Hope everyone else is enjoying the "long" weekend whatever you're doing!

  • Kinda pissed... OB nurse called back and the midwives aren't in today but the chief OB of the hospital is in our practice/the practice owner and he said no... I am too far along at this point being almost 27 weeks. Bummer! Next summer... Hopefully the baby likes the boat lol.
