Triple digits and a hot car seat.

For those of you who live in areas that get into the triple digits in the summer (especially those who have already been through a summer with a lo what do you do about the hot car seat? Now that we are in the 110's, and  lo is getting too big for me to lug around in the car seat, (she also prefers sitting in the stroller/highchair/shopping cart over being in the car seat anyways)  her seat is usually being left in the car and it gets so hot that I hate to put her in it. I was wondering what you ladies do to help keep the car seat from getting too hot?

Or if there are some car seats that are better than others, we are looking into getting a convertible seat soon so a not too expensive cooler option would be nice as well since we will need to get two one for each car. We had been looking at getting the safety first alpha omega elite since it's available at Sam's club and has great ratings, does anyone know how these are for hot climates?

Super dark window tint on the back windows. I never really did anything to the seat other than that. Some people put a blanket/towel over the car seat so it doesn't have the sun beating on it directly. You can also get car seat coolers or just use ice packs wrapped in towels.

Curious to see other responses on this topic, too!  We have our windows tinted as much as we can, but the carseat still gets hot!  The padding isn't as much as a concern as the metal buckles!! I'm always worried, especially with DS in shorts and such, that the metal might accidentally touch his skin and burn him!  It gets super hot!!  I'll have to try the towel thing and see if that helps!  Good question, OP!

Dark tint, sunshades on the windows, and a 2-liter bottle of frozen water wrapped in a thin baby towel. That last bit does wonders, just leave it in the seat whenever you go in anywhere, and since the ice chunk is so thick, it lasts all day, even here in Phx! E really knows the difference, and lets me know anytime I forget!

I'm totally going to make one of those! It looks like it would be pretty easy. I don't think I will need one for this summer but definitely will next summer.

This thing is a great idea for most places, unfortunately it doesn't hold up in Phoenix. The cooler packs thaw too quickly in the 100+ heat (which can easily reach 150 in a closed car).  It works if you're out on a short trip, but doesn't hold up past about two hours.

The etsy thing looks neat but I think I'll have to go with Mork since she's dealing with the same temps as I am. We have a 3 liter bottle of soda in the fridge, when we finish it I'll have to try filling it with water and making myself a giant ice cube. I'll let you know how it goes.
