Baby Names

Ashton either way?

DD#1 is Addison Grace, and DD#2 is Avery Leigh. No real reason they are both "A" names other than those are just the names we liked. For Baby #3, we love Ashton for a boy, but the more I think about it, the more I like it either way. What do you think of Ashton for a girl vs. boy?

Re: Ashton either way?

  • I like the name Ashton, all three names flow nicely together as well.

  • One of my best friends from college,a girl, is named Ashton. I think it definitely works either way.

It never would have occurred to me that this could be a girl's name. I think boy.

  • Addison and Avery are both traditionally "boy" names so I kind of think it might be fitting if we have DD#3

  • I only know men named Ashton, no women or little girls.

I think it's listed as unisex on a lot of name sites, but I believe it was traditionally male.

I agree, it seems to fit your style. According to behindthename it can be used for either. I've never heard it on a girl but its not bad.

  • Ashton is a BOY name only.
  • The only time I heard it on a girl was in the John Jakes book/miniseries North and South. And that character had a sister named Brett, so...

But as you said, Addison and Avery are traditionally boy names, so I don't think it would be out of place.

While I personally see it as a boy name, PP is right, it fits your style.

Normally I'd side-eye for a girl (probably because I just associate it with boys because of Ashton Kutcher) but I really like it with your other LO's names.  I say go for it if you like it!
