Looking to get my 2 y.o. something like those Leap pads. Not ready to buy a ipad for someone so young. Which technological device to you recommend that keeps their attention for short intervals?
We just let him use our iPad, but if I was getting him his own, I would go with a Kindle Fire. There's a lot of free content out there, and I've heard the Leap Pad games end up being really expensive.
We have five I-pads 2 regular, and 3 minis, the only two who don't are the 4 month old and ten month old. I dragged my feet about getting the two year old one, but he loves my older two's. We fly often, we are heading to Italy on Saturday. We fly internationally about every six weeks or so. We are going from Canada, to Italy back to Canada and then home to Miami before the start of September. We will be going in October, to Canada, from Canada to Ireland, from Ireland back to Miami. With how much international flying we do, I justified getting him one. I download age appropriate aps, and movies to it for him to travel.
They are only used for travel, either by plane or by car. When we fly from Miami to Canada, we land and have a five hour road trip to where our summer cottage is.
Yes if you are going to spend some money, just bite the bullet and get an ipad. Instead of something that semi meets your needs and then spending more money to buy an ipad to completely meet your needs... Just buy e ipad. It's hands down the best on the market. We have 2 large iPads and a mini. My son has learned so much from the amazing apps including shapes, colors, lower and upper case alphabet. It's the best investment. You can also get an interest free payment plan through best buy if the price is too steep for you. You won't regret it at all. It is great for long trips, doctors visits. We limit play time so he's not sitting at the dinner table or restaurants expecting it. It's the BEST!!!
We have the Leap Pad 2 Explorer. DS loves it. He also plays around with DHs IPad. I think the LP is better for the little ones. Even supervised, we watch DS when he's on the IPad. The Explorer will keep he entertained.

We actually bought the Nook HD for DD for Christmas - didn't want to spend the extra $200 on the Ipad at the time, but also didn't want to get her a 'kid' tablet she would grow out of soon. The Nook is great - great apps and now they have Google Play so even more to choose from. I use it a lot too. It has been well worth it and I'm happy w/ the choice!

I would buy the family an iPad.
TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!
Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!
What age is recommended for the explorer?
