Pregnant after IF

Doppler Issues (Need reassurance)

I know I'm still early, but I found baby's heartbeat nice and strong on Friday at 8w5d.  I have tried everyday since then with full bladder, empty bladder, full stomach, empty stomach, etc. and I can't seem to find the baby now.  Our next ultrasound is a week from today and I just need advice/reassurance/stories to help me get through the week not worrying constantly that something bad has happened.  What do you think?

It is actually really early for the Doppler.  I'm surprised you found it on Friday (you're sure it wasn't your heartbeat, right?).  You may have just gotten lucky and happened to find it.  It's perfectly normal for you to not hear it at this point.

Give it another week and try again.  I know it's super hard to wait and wonder.

    Good luck to you.

Thank you!  I'm pretty sure it wasn't my heartbeat.  It was very fast and was completely different sounding than my heartbeat and the other swooshing sounds that go on.   Waiting sucks lol

  • The baby is probably moving around pretty quickly and has lots of room, making it difficult for you to get a good read of the heartbeat.

I found that I had the most luck finding it in the mornings before I got out of bed, but I didn't even get my doppler until 13w so I can't speak for finding it at 9w.

  • Yes I agree, it is too early. Ten weeks is the earliest to hear something and even then it could be hard. I am 11 and most days I have trouble finding it. I will wait a bit and try again.

  • My doctor found it at 11 weeks, but it took *ages* and she warned us she might not find it that early. So 8 weeks is very early. Baby is very small still and has a lot of room to move around.

  • I couldn't find the baby's heartbeat until 13 weeks consistently.  I'm sure everything is fine!

  • I'm 9 weeks and 1 day. I too just got a doppler. I'm an OB nurse and I really didn't think I would be able to hear anything this early. I was fooling around with it the other day and to my amazement I was able to hear an FH. I don't hear it consistently. It's just way too early. :)

  • I didn't find it until way later.  I swore I found it but that was just me.  When I saw the LO on the screen jumping around early on I realized how hard it would be to find it when they are so little because they go nuts in there.  Literally bouncing off the (uterine) walls!  I am glad that you found it once but please do not stress if you can't find it again.  Its hard to find it.  DH had a hard time finding it yesterday and I am 29 weeks.  (yeah I am that obsessive)

  • At my 12 week appointment, my doctor couldn't even find it. He had to grab a quick ultrasound machine to see it. I couldn't consistently find it with my Doppler until about 16 weeks or so. It's still super early for you to be able to find it.

  • Another vote for it just being too early. My OB couldn't even find LOs heart beat with the doppler at 12 weeks (they had to switch to an ultrasound). Baby was happily moving around in there but just too small to find. Even up until 18-22ish weeks it was hard for them to find it on the doppler because she just moves away from it.
  • Thank you all!!  All your responses made me feel a lot better!!
