Nothing. I knew a little girl who had to get them because her teeth were damaged in an accident. FTR she did have a shitty mom, but that had nothing to do with her teeth.

Nothing. Accident, night time breast feeding, or just poor teeth. Who cares? At least you know the child has been taken to the dentist and preventative/corrective measures have been taken.
It makes me sad for the child. If I was a dentist, I would have a hard time doing that to a child. I'd rather pull the teeth or cap them with white for the same price.
I just can't see harming a child's self-view like that.
Why is it harming their self-view?
It does make me cringe. But not knowing the full back story, I try not to judge...
There used to be a dentist around the parts, but I can't remember her SN. I am wondering, thinking that there's often a medical/dental necessity for silver caps on primary teeth.
I don't really think anything. I worked ata school with a lot of Hispanic Iimmigrants and the silver caps were really common. I didn't think any less of the parents because it meant they wereat least getting dental care for their kids.
ETA: This was also a very low income school so that was also a factor. Most families couldn't afford anything more than getting the caps and hoping for the best.
My 3 year old has them on some of his molars he also had to have some pulled. I cried like a baby because I felt like I had failed him. No matter how many times his dentist tells me that there was little I could have done to protect his teeth since they know I am obsessed with his health, orally and physically.
I took him to the dentist for the first time at about 6 months and constantly since then. Eventually his dentist sat me down and told me that some children just have bad teeth. He told me it was most likely genetic since DH family has some of the worst teeth I have ever seen. If half of DH teeth are his own I will be shocked, he has uncles that had full dentures by 30 because their teeth just got so bad.
He also said that sometimes they go on to have perfectly healthy adult teeth, which is what I'm hoping happens with DS but realistically won't.
I find that children really don't care about them but other parents, mostly other mothers, are the ones that make huge deals about it. I've had woman get down on her knees to look into his mouth and proceed to lecture me on how much of a bad parent I am.
DS brushes his teeth a min of 4 times a day. Rinses his mouth after everything he eats. Eats very little sugar and maybe one cup of sugar free juice a day. Still it seems like I can't protect them. His dentist says its obvious that I take as good a care of them since it could be a lot worse.
It doesn't phase me. nbsp; There could be any number of reasons a toddler or preschooler has to have them, including trauma or an accident, or even because of certain medications that can cause cavities or other damage.
I was just going to say this about the meds.
Now, I have a family member who had to have her 4 yo's teeth capped or removed because they were so rotted out. She was a shiity influence and I personally saw her Dd open the refrigerator, grab a 2liter coke, and chug it at 3yo. I was sickened.
I've never seen caps on a child, but I have seen kids with rotten teeth and my initial reaction is to feel bad for the kid and wonder why it's like that (did the parent's not brush?) but I don't assume the parent's are shitty parents.
ETA: also wonder other things too, like meds, illness, injury...just saying I also wuestion the parents but don't necessarily judge them

A friend of mine has six kids. The youngest three caught some sort of virus from breastfeeding, and had their baby teeth pulled or capped. That was the story anyway.
my nephew just had to get a cap because he fell off the deck and injured his whole mouth (tongue, lip, gums, and teeth). i don't think much of it, but i hardly see children with caps on their teeth.
I worked at a very popular mobile phone store for a while. It was in a place with mid to very low income. One day a family came in and bought 4 smart phones. Their oldest son who was probably 8 or 9 had rotten teeth. For that I judged, I judged a lot. Sorry put that 300 bucks towards your kids teeth instead of new phones!

Just thought I would give some insight.
Ah, ok I can't see the pic. Maybe because I'm mobile. Should I remove my former statement since it doesn't seem to be appropriate.
I lol'd.
