Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

DD has decided that 4am is time to wake up and play.....

I don't know what to do to stop this. DD is 15 months old and goes to bed close to 8:00pm every night. She is tired and crying and has to go down. But like clockwork she is wide awake at 4:00am. We get her up and see if she needs to eat and try to put her back down but she gets crying to the point we have no choice but to get her back up after awhile, or she gets so over upset she hyperventilates. We try to put her in bed with us but she is just completely awake and wont lay down.

So this morning I admitted defeat and just got up and let her play. This cannot continue. Has anyone else went through this? Do you have any suggestions on what to try?

Re: DD has decided that 4am is time to wake up and play.....

  • JUST went through this and i was about to lose it. it lasted about two weeks and on the last day of tears (yes, i cried), he finally slept until six. it all started because of teething... then once he cut the teeth, the 4am wake ups still happened.

here is what worked for us:

dark curtains, 7 o'clock bedtime, and finally a sippy cup of water. the water was probably the best solution. on the last early morning of waking up, i watched him sit up, chug his water, and lay back down back to sleep. i was so excited, i couldn't fall back asleep. since then, he has been sleeping in until 7!

good luck! it is the WORST waking up in the 4 o'clock hour. it makes for a super LONG and exhausting day.
