Do Midwives at Magee do Waterbirth?

Hello PGH Mamas!

I'm currently under the care of the Midwives at the Midwife Center in the Strip, but was disappointed to learn that they don't do water births.  I'll probably stick with them b/c the out of hospital birth option appeals to me, but I was wondering, do the midwives at magee do waterbirths?

Thanks!

Re: Do Midwives at Magee do Waterbirth?

  • No. There are only 4 tub rooms for labor at Magee and the mom can't stay in for the birth.

  • Thanks for the reply, that pretty much cements my decision!

My pregnancy brain just cracked me up. I was wondering, at first, if you had lost it considering the mom was the one giving birth and wondered how the mom couldnt stay in...but you meant couldnt stay in the water. I was thinking you were saying that the mom had to leave the room or something. These twins are sucking my brain cells at a rapid pace. Haha

    Haha, that's too funny.

"You can use the tub if you want, but then you'll have to give birth in the parking lot"

  • I think it's actually Pennsylvania state law - no births allowed in tubs at medical facilities. So a home birth is the only option for a water birth.
  • I've also heard that it's a PA law no water births except in your own home.  I'd LOVE to do that, but the idea of giving birth at home is too scary to me if there was a problem and every second counted!
