Special Needs

Son-Rise and Floortime

I would be very interested and appreciative to hear about people's experiences with these types of therapies. DS2 currently has a PDD-NOS dx, and most of his flags are social. He's very verbal and is testing within normal ranges for cognitive development. We are currently doing special instruction with him instead of ABA because I wasn't sure that ABA was the right fit for him.

Both Son-Rise and Floortime seem very interesting, although I will admit that Son-Rise gives me a bit of a gimmicky feel. Not sure why -- maybe because you're expected to attend a conference. Either way, I'd love to hear if you have or are doing these.

Re: Son-Rise and Floortime

  • Thanks for responding. Joining the dysfunction also seems like the opposite of what we're currently learning, which is to try to shake up his world as often as possible (in small doses). DS1 does this often for him anyway :-) so he's kind of used to that, but he'd rather give up on an activity than join in with someone else if he doesn't want to.
