Tablet ?

So I am starting to do my shopping for Christmas already. I know it's only July but I like to get a head start. Anyway, my dd loves my iPad mini. She plays on it all the time and I forget that it's actually mine.

i wanted to get her one for herself but not really wanting to spend 329 for an IPad mini considering she is really rough with almost all her toys. She tends to break a lot of stuff. When she uses mine she has to be seated on the couch or next to me at all times.

PIC have seen a few children ones that I thought about.    Any suggestions / reviews?

thanks

Re: Tablet ?

  • I would say that she can share yours. It's not like she needs her own for much of anything.  We share ours at home between my husband and I and my daughter.

  • I would only keep one. I think if you buy her a separate one you're more likely to overuse it. Kids shouldn't be spending more than two hours a day on electronics.

  • I'm in the camp of not getting another one, too.  We rarely let DD use our tablet and when we do it's usually for less than 30 min.

  • My DD has her own iPad mini, I bought it from Apple and it was a refurb. Not cheap, but she already had a ton of iPad apps from my iPad that I bought and she knows how to use it. Same warranty as a regular mini that wasn't a refurb, so it's all good there. I got it in 2 days, also. I vote to stay with the mini. My MIL bought her a cheap tablet and it just suuuucked. Very slow, didn't hold a charge long and not many good kid apps like what Apple has. She spent more money on tablets for DD and SS than she should have.

  • I gave my old Kindle to DS1 and I love all the free kids stuff you can get through Amazon Prime.  He's not obsessed with it so I don't know if I would have spent the money to get him his own (and like the killjoys said, they really shouldn't spend too much time on it).

Also, my mom bought him a Nabi and neither of us were impressed. It's sitting in a drawer somewhere.

  • Get a Griffen or Otterbox cover for it. DS has a mini. DH won it at a convention. He doesn't use it a lot but it is nice not to have to share.
