Allergies

At ds's 18 month appoint I told the Dr he was sneezing all the time and had a runny boogery nose. Just by looking up his nose she said he had allergies. She didn't say to what so I'm assuming she thought pollen and prescribed him some medicine.

We got dog the beginning of may. I'd there anyway to tell if he's allergic to the dog or if its just seasonal allergies? He probably started sneezing around the time we got the dog but that's also around the time the pollen came around since we had a very late spring so its hard to say whats causing it. Any suggestions?

    Allergy testing?

I suppose this would be the only for sure way to tell wouldn't it?

Yea, I think allergy testing is the only way to know for sure... but I've read from several sources that allergy testing for those under 2 is not very accurate.  I believe the issue is that it takes time/multiple exposures for the immune system to "decide" it doesn't like a particular allergen, so it is difficult to confidently diagnose an allergy before age 2.  I'm assuming this regarding seasonal and environmental allergies, not food/milk allergies, as many infants develop a milk intolerance/allergy very young.
