So we just (as in, this morning) switched DS to cloth diapers. Partially for money, mostly because i didn't like all those chemicals being on his skin, and also, how darn cute are they?! I seriously felt like a kid at Christmas stuffing all his new dipes last night getting ready for today, and i can already tell that i'm a CD convert for life lol.
But it occurs to me, that i am sitting here all giddy and excited, about diapers.. Snapping picture after picture of my son in his first CD. It's sort of amazing how your priorities and what gets you happy and excited change so drastically after having a baby. I'm all excited about diapers.. That i'll need to clean myself.. Haha..
Sorry for the pointless post, guess it's sort of a "AW" post. I'm just in a good mood for the first time this week.
How are all you ladies and your LOs doing this morning
Re: My, how life has changed.
And now I spend more time shopping for baby clothes and obsessing over baby products then I do looking for anything for myself. It is funny how life changes. But I certainly am happy with the changes!
My husband was the same way. It took months, and finally i just told him "Look, we are spending $80 dollars a month on disposable diapers, with chemicals in them that are pretty bad for all of us to be breathing in, and that will take 500 years to decompose. I will change every diaper, and do all the laundry if i have to, but we are switching.". And he finally agreed. He still thinks they look ridiculous, but i think he will get over that in time. It helped when i showed him a chart of what CD families spend versus sposie families. You can save at least a $1000 in the long run. More if you bargain shop, get sales, and buy used.
I just told my husband that we're using cloth diapers when we're at home and that was that. We still use disposables for overnight, daycare, and he tends to use them when we're out and about. He thinks it's gross that I just throw them in the washer poop and all but it's really not that bad.
As for how my life has changed, I get up at 4 freaking 30 every morning just so I can get home earlier to pick up DD from daycare. I never got to work before 9:30 before I had her.
I love CDing as well. It might have been a d!ck move, but I switched DS without telling DH. I ordered the CDs when I was prego, prepped them when he was on a hunting or fishing trip, and stored them in DS's room. Once DS was big enough for the OS diaps (he was too big at birth for my NB stash, but his legs were too skinny for the OS stash until he was about a month old), I just stuck one on him when DH was out, and that's the way it's been since. DH was kind of bucky about it at first, but I do most of the diaper changes and the laundry any way, so I said, if he wants to start changing all diapers and doing the laundry, he could have an opinion about it. Fast forward to now, and I catch DH telling people how easy it really is, mission accomplished!
I decided to CD mostly due to chemicals. DH is a testicular cancer survivor which means DS has a greater chance of developing it as well, so keeping those chemicals away from his manly bits is a big plus, but add in cost savings and general adorableness, and I definitely made the right decision for our family.
I totally know what you mean. A close friend of ours bought us an extended baby gate. I couldn't believe how excited I was for that thing!
That was a BIG issue for my H as well, until i showed him the sprayers they make to clean the poo off them before you throw then in the washing machine. His insisted on getting one, and that has made him a lot more comfortable with the idea. I was fine with just rinsing them by hand, but he thinks this will be better. So hey, whatever makes him happy lol.
This was my husband too! I highly suggest a Spray Pal, which you can get on amazon, if you spray because the water goes everywhere! Also, don't tell my hubby but I am usually too lazy to spray them when he's not around. She's EBF and thus here poo is supposed to be water soluble, and honestly sometimes I just don't have time nor energy to go upstairs to spray! Plus, I always run the washer on the hottest longest setting and clean it so I'm so not worried about it getting poo contaminated. Oh the things men stress over.
Mine is FF and on purees now, so not rinsing isn't an option. Thanks for the suggestion! I hadn't even thought about the "water everywhere" issue. That i could see getting a little gross.. Lol.
<high five!>
I can't do 4:30, but I completely understand, and wish I could. On mornings we accidentally sleep in an extra 20 minutes, I end up packing granola bars for lunch and not washing hair, or whatever I can skip just to get DS to daycare and get into work ASAP, only because I want to be able to pick up DS as early as I can
