Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

about to go crazy!!

I posted this in 9-12 months a while ago but we're over here now so hopefully someone has some advice for me!!  My LO has always been a good sleeper, he had been sleeping 10-12 hours straight through the night, never waking up, since 5.5 months old.  Suddenly at 11.5 months he stopped sleeping and its been over a month now and still won't sleep at night. Last night he was up every 2 hours. I have no idea whats wrong with him or what to do. Sometimes he cries, sometimes he just stands there and whines, he is so stubborn that I can see on the monitor he is exhausted and falling over but refuses to go back to sleep. Sometimes I go in and rock him back to sleep. If he;s just whining I wait about 20 min then go in and try to rub his back and his head while he's in the crib but he still won't sleep.  What the hell happened?!  How can a child do a complete 180 like that??   He has no cold symptoms right now or anything like that.

Help!!!!!

  • Is he learning something new? Words? Walking? New skills can disrupt sleep for no apparent reason. Teething is the other thing that occasionally messes up my son's sleep.

Oh man I didn't think about molars!  I'm a FTM.  Yea he is on the verge of walking.  I mean he is already taking steps- about four then he falls haha.

Is he ever going to go back to sleeping??!!!  Its been 5 weeks of no sleeping!

Yes, he will go back to sleeping through the night. When my DS starting sleeping through the night at seven months, I was so excited. It only lasted a month. Then he would wake up once if not twice a night up until 15 months. Once his molars and canines came through, he slept through the night again. I would give him some Tylenol or something at night. It should help ease his discomfort.

    Molars.

Also, sleep is a constant thing. Just because they do one thing for months and months doesn't mean it can't change. Between illnesses, milestones, teething, etc. it can always change.

This. My DD changes her sleep habits every few months. Right now we're on a fighting sleep phase. ::rubs eyes and chugs coffee::
