1: Ask your doctor when you get your IUD removed, but I don't think you usually have to wait at all. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong.)
2: It varies from person to person, but some irregularity is normal. I didn't have an IUD, I was on the Nuva Ring, but I had odd cycles on and off for a year after I came off of it.
It seems to be pretty mixed- some doctors say you can go ahead right away, others say wait 1-3 cycles. Just ask your doctor tomorrow. I had a withdrawal bleed ~a week after my Mirena was removed. It was just like all my other periods on it had been (light, minimal cramping). A month after that I got my first "real" period, and the cramps were killer. After that it went back to what is now my norm- very light, so-so cramping.
I bled pretty heavily for a few days after getting mine out, which wasn't when I was expecting to have a period, but I think my body was just readjusting after having really light cycles with the Mirena. Once that stopped we started TTC right away.

TTC since February 2013
MC @ 7 weeks July 2013 BFP Oct 2013 - EDD June 7 2014!
I had my removed in May after almost 2 years of having it. My dr advised we wait a month or 2 because it can cause your lining to be thin.
I had some light bleeding about 4 days after removal (I did not have any bleeding while on it, probably due to the Mirena and breastfeeding). I had a fairly normal 30 day cycle, O'd on day 20, LP 10 days, and my period was slightly heavier than normal (or what was my normal while TTC DD). We used condoms for that cycle.
We started trying this month, I again have ovulated and am in the two week wait.
