Rayovac batteries worked in the Twilight Turtle - not Duracell, not Energizer, just Rayovac.

So if your Twilight Turtle died and won't work despite replacing the batteries, go hunt down some Rayovac batteries. Apparently they are the teensiest bit longer than the other brands.
