My DS just turned 1. In September his Daycare will move him up to the bigger kid room from infant room and they only allow 1 nap between 12 - 2 there. He is still in infant room for the summer but today they decided to start the transition to 1 nap without even speaking to us. Was a bit upset that they didn't discuss this with us, but I'm also just concerned with if he's ready for only 1 nap. He loves his naps on weekends. Recently he has started to fight it a bit he used to nap for 2 hours in am and 2 in pm. Then it went down to 1 1/2 hours. Recently he's cried for 15 mins or so after we put him down but then after the 1 hour to 1 1/2 hour we sometimes start making noise so he'll wake up. He seems to need those naps.
What is typical time frame for this transition? Do all daycare's do it around 1 year? We were thinking of calling some other places to see but curious what others had to say. We spoke to our Dr at his 1 year appt and she said that he is still well within the age of having 2 naps.
Re: transition to 1 nap
My LO was at home and didn't switch to 1 nap schedule until around 16-17m. And he still occasionally takes 2 naps if he randomly wakes up super early. He went down for his nap around 11a and would sleep until 1-2p and then eat lunch when he woke up.
He started DC at 18m, and they do nap after lunch. That was 5m ago and he still prefers to nap before lunch at home.
Ditto PP that many DCs switch to one pm nap at 12m, whether the kid is ready or not because it's group setting.
