Flying alone with twins

Anyone fly alone with their twins?

DH and I are looking to go to Florida in December. We were going to drive down because it's a lot cheaper than having to rent a vehicle when we get down there. DH suggested her drive down and I fly down with the girls 2 days later. It will be about a 3 hour flight and the girls will be 14-15 months old. I have never flown with a baby let alone two.

Can anyone share their experiences? How you do it?

Thanks!!

    I have flown and driven with twins a lot, but always with DH.nbsp; Honestly, I would pick 1 mode of travel and all of you go that way.nbsp; I think you're making it more complicated splitting up like that.nbsp;

    I agree with this. Although i am sure you could do it, you will have two mobile kiddos and trying to wrangle them through security and the airport would be really hard. i know renting a vehicle is pricey, but, both kids would qualify as lap infants if your dh flew, and you would still have to buy two seats if you flew alone with the two girls. is driving for days really worth the wear and tear on your own vehicle? Not to mention the time it takes away from your vacation?

    TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

    Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!

    The only way I would fly alone w/twins would be if they each had their own seat. But then I don't see how it would be cheaper than your DH flying and doing 2 lap babies and renting a car.
  • I have only flown alone with my oldest DD when she was about that age, and my son who was too young to be of any help at that time. I'll be honest, it was a really stressful trip. I tried holding her in my lap and she threw a major tantrum the entire flight and her diaper leaked all over me. On the flight home, I insisted my DH buy a ticket for her and it was a little better experience. (he was on a different flight because this was job-related travel for him and his company booked his flights)

    I agree with PP's, Go with your hubby, or see if you can get a mommy's helper to come along with you if he insists on going separate.

    My hubby and I get into disagreements over stuff like this when just because something is cheaper doesn't always mean it's the best option. Your sanity definitely has value, as well.

    good luck

  • Thank you ladies! This is exactly what I was hoping to see. I will show DH these responses. He just made a suggestion and I told him that I didn't think it would be a good idea.

    I told him too that driving that far with 14-15 month old would be crazy. We just drove from St Catharines to Ottawa (5-6 hours without kids) and they weren't happy.. to Florida would be a 24 hour drive without kids, I'm not sure how long it would take with kids.

    I think I might try to convince DH to fly and rent a vehicle after all. Can you give me tips and the rules for flying (gate checking stuff and such) if you don't mind. Thanks again!! <3 you all.

  • After just flying with my slightly more mobile almost 13 mo olds, I couldn't imagine doing it alone. Zomg! I did find a great rate on a minivan rental from hertz.com directly 280 for 9 days though with only two kids you can go smaller. Good luck, totally, totally agree with the pps!
