Big girl bed transition question

What did you guys do when you moved your kids from the crib to a regular bed, did you leave the bedroom door open or closed? We are going to be moving my daughter to a regular twin bed and I'm not sure if I should keep the door to her bedroom closed (as I always did) or should I leave it open just in case she gets scared and wants to walk across the hall to my bedroom.

Re: Big girl bed transition question

  • She was used to the door shut so that is what we did.  We did add a nightlight just in case she got up in the middle of the night.

I should add that she would just knock on the door when she woke up in the morning.  However, it wasn't long after we transitioned her that she learned she could reach the door handle and open the door so she didn't have to do that very long.

We put a gate in the door and left the door opened some of the time.

    This is what I did.

This is our plan too, but we're holding off on switching for as long as we can.

  • For those of you that put the gate in the door. How did your kids sleep when they were still in the crib? with the door open or closed? I'm just wondering if leaving it open will give her an idea that she could get up and walk to the gate, because she's always slept with the door closed...
