When did you start washing clothes, blankets, etc. I am a nesting beast right now and hung up so much stuff/folded and put away stuff even though I need to wash it all still haha.
I did everything yesterday. My shower was last week so I had lots of new stuff to organize, and my parents brought over our bureau, so it seemed like a good time. Hubby was in house updating mode, and his energy rubbed off and I went into baby organization mode.
ETA: I am a first time mom, not BTDT. I knew for myself though, I am only going to get lazier and lazier as we get closer to the due date!
I washed everything about a week ago and spent the day organizing it and putting it away in her drawers and closet. I washed NB through 6 months worth. The rest still has tags and I'll wash as we need them. I also went ahead and washed all the sheets, blankets, wraps, towels, soft toys, etc. so those would also be ready to go.
If everything is new, with tags, returnable, I'd seriously wash like 3 newborn outfits and 5 three month outfits, 3 receiving blankets, and a pack of cloth diapers to use as burp cloths, and that would be it. And I'd do it sometime in August. That way if baby is big, or gender was wrong on the scans, or unfortunately something is wrong, everything can be returned or exchanged.
And if you're team green, once you know the gender, you may not love dressing LO so neutrally and really want to exchange a lot for gender specific.
With DS, I had washed a 5 pack of newborn onesies, and he never wore a single one of them. We returned a bunch of newborn clothes and exchanged them for bigger. He was 8lbs2oz. Yes he could've fit into newborn for a little while but 3m fit just fine too so it seemed silly to put him in clothes that would fit for a couple weeks when we could exchange for clothes that would fit for a couple months!
This time around everything I have is secondhand, so I'll probably just wash all of it, or at least all the newborn and 3m stuff, because its not returnable anyway.

I started washing everything after my shower, which was at 34 weeks. DD was born at 39 weeks. This time I have been washing the items that I have picked up at garage sales before putting them into a storage bin. The items I have bought new at the store I will probably wait to wash until about 34 weeks or so again. I would also only wash the new items that go up to about 3 months - just incase baby is bigger or smaller and may not use the items, if you have a receipt you can exchange for a different size.
As soon as I get something new I wash it and then put it away so I don't have to go back and wash it all or try to remember what I did and didn't wash. Except I haven't washed bigger sizes because I will just do that when the time comes.
Since we're having another girl all, well most, of her clothes are used. So in this case I'll wash them all again probably sometime in August.. As for the first time around, I know it's tempting to wash everything because you're so excited, but like some of the PP's mentioned, you might want to wait. You don't know how big the baby will be, or if the gender scan was right, so you might want to return for different sizes, etc. for 0 to 3 month if they're sleepers or onesies you'll probably use most of them, but my advice would be to return most if the cutesy outfits and exchange for a larger size when you actually will get them dressed more often.
As soon as I had enough for load, I washed them, and will do another load after the shower. I wanted to take inventory of what we had and what we would still need. Most of the clothes were handed down or from garage sales.
After my shower next month, I will do another load, but I plan on leaving tags on a lot of the stuff if we already have a lot of that size or item.
Sheesh I thought I was anxious because I want to wash DD's old stuff for new baby but it seems like a lot of other BTDT mamas are already washed and ready to go. Looks like I need to get on the washing and sorting train.
I agree with PP - as a FTM, you have no idea what you will need. I washed EVERYTHING for DD in newborn sizes and luckily, she was tiny and wore them for over 2 months. A friend of ours had a crapload of newborn stuff and her little girl was 9lbs 13 oz at birth so she wore ONE....ONE newborn outfit. This girl was smart and didn't take the tags off anything and she was able to return all of it and get stuff that will actually fit.
Last time I washed everything maybe the week after my shower. I didn't have any problems with things not fitting DD.
This time I'm not having a shower, but am having a boy so I've been slowly shopping sales and have 2 big bags of boy clothes I've bought and a laundry basket full of gender neutral stuff that I pulled out of DDs bins.
I haven't washed anything though because I have absolutely nowhere to put it. I need to get myself a new bigger dresser that can fit all my clothes so I can downsize from 2 dressers to one and then I'll have an extra dresser to put this baby's clothes in. Once I accomplish that I will get right on the washing and folding.
