Teen mom?

Hi. My name is Brooke, and I am 16 years old.
Long story short, I think I may be pregnant.
My last period was May 23May 29. On the 31, my boyfriend and I had unprotected sex.
Now, I don't have regular periods so I use an app and I've only got two months logged. But I trust it more than my own intuition because I'm lost.
When I'm on my period, that's it. I don't really get moody or pms or anything. The only thing is a few days before, I get a tell tale pimple. Large and in charge.
Well over the past few weeks, I've felt weird.
nausea in and out
terrible bloating
excess gas in both directions
heartburn and an overall feeling of food coming back up after I eat
a few headaches
dry mouth and nose
enlarged breasts one week I was going to trash a bra because it was too loose, a week later it fits perfectly
sore back muscles
god awful insomnia at night no sleep before 1:30 am and awful exhaustion during the day
The only one I didn't really get was frequent urination. Before a few weeks ago, I would pee in the morning, drink whatever, and not have to pee until I went to bed. But now, I pee 46 times a day. I never had urges, and now I do. It's not frequent as much as it is increased. Also, my tell tale pimple came and went...still nothing. Weird.
According to my app, my period is due on the 1st, in two days, more than a month from my last period. It also says I am 12dpo today. That puts me at 5 weeks and 2 days. I got a negative test at 9dpo and 12dpo. I don't know what the problem is...I technically haven't missed a period, but I feel like such crap...advice?
I am pro choice but would not choose abortion, or even adoption.

Keep testing with pink dye, and first morning urine until you get your period or a positive.

If you get your period then please invest in reliable birth control like Depo, IUD or some other method in addition to condoms. 16 is too young to be taking chances like this. Really.

12 DPO would be 3w5d bc 14 DPO is 4 weeks. So either your app is wrong or something else is up. The only way you will know if you are pregnant is if you take a test. If it says negative then you aren't pregnant or still too early. I'd keep taking tests every week. If you hit 60 days and you still haven't had a period, call your doc.

When you call your doc, get on some reliable birth control. Babies are cute and all but seriously you can wait for like another 10 years or so before enjoying that part of your life.

Check out fertility friend, google cycle length, follicular and luteal phase length ::the phase before you ovulate and the one after you O::, etc. Everyone's cycle is unique but a lot of us follow similar patterns.

Knowing your cycle can help you avoid pregnancy or know if you've cut it close with unprotected sex close to your O date.

If you're getting neg pregnancy tests it's most likely you're just having a weird cycle with odd pms symptoms. Even if you haven't had them before they can always start up on a whim.

But there is always a chance you are pregnant. Keep testing and like the other ladies said, call your doc if you hit 60 days without a period.

When I was 16 I had the weirdest cycles, there was no rhyme or reason to them. Birth control evened me out (and kept me from getting pregnant.)

The only thing I could tell you to do is WAIT... once you've officially missed your period, you'll have a better idea. Even so, all the stress about being preggers could psych you out to having all the symptoms of actually being pregnant. Don't stress. Simply wait until you've missed your period and take another pregnancy test. Much luck!

Okay. Now a lot makes sense. The only thing is that there are certain symptoms I can't psych myself into and I've never had in my life. Like heartburn and nausea and insomnia. I didn't even know what they were until I googled them, so how could I make myself experience them?

Certain things can be brought on my stress. If you're stressing that you're pregnant you're also going to become super in tune with your body and notice very single little difference, which in turn stresses you more... See what I'm saying?

I do wish you the best of luck, no matter which outcome you have. Definitely stick around if you are pregnant, there's a lot of info to be gleaned from these boards. I remember it helped immensely with my first to read that other women where experiencing the same symptoms and fears as I was.

Stress and diet can cause nausea and insomnia and heartburn. If you're having symptoms you would turn a test.

Take a test with your first urine of the morning on Monday. Then repeat weekly till you get your period.

If it makes you feel any better I am almost 15 weeks pregnant and had none of the "symptoms" you are describing. Hormonal changes trigger the symptoms, and if you aren't testing positive for the hormones than the "symptoms' that you are feeling are likely caused by something else. The heartburn and nausea can be from indigestion, and the insomnia could be because you're terrified you're pregnant.

So I've taken into account everything you ladies have said and I thank all of you. I have one last question though. I don't want to discredit any of you, but is it possible that because, to my knowledge, none of you are experts on the matter and I could be pregnant? I mean, if there are ladies who get pregnant on their period so that means something happened out of norm. Hypothetically, I could be one of them right?

Just take a pregnancy test once your next assigned period date has passed. You should definitely get a positive then if you haven't sooner!

You named all your "symptoms", but you didn't name the only one that is a guarantee - a positive home pregnancy test.

Your obgyn would do a quantitative hcg blood test to find out if you are producing hcg. They may even just do a urine test in their office which will just come up negative. Even if you call him/her and request this test they may very well decline the request because quite frankly you aren't that "late" (especially if you have irregular periods and do not track BBT) and you are not turning a home pregnancy test positive. Usually you have to go 60+ days without a period before an obgyn will consider intervention or see you.

If you don't believe any of the advice here, why did you come here seeking advice? It's almost like you want us to tell you that you're pregnant or yes, you can still possibly be pregnant. If you don't trust the scientifically sound information that you are receiving here, call your obgyn. End of story.

I'm not a doctor but I do know how the reproductive system works. If you have your period, you can't be pregnant. When you have your period, your body is shedding the lining of the uterus that is built up in anticipation of a fertilized egg to implant. When the lining is shed, that means no fertilized egg implanted and you are not pregnant. Like everyone has said, it is possible you are pregnant. If you are pregnant right now though, you would turn a test positive. It is EXTREMELY RARE that you could be pregnant and not be able to turn a test. Most of those cases though boils down to the fact that the woman took the test wrong. If you are following directions and getting negatives, you aren't pregnant. Try to relax. Stress can prevent you from getting your period. You still haven't answered all our questions though so we can't help any more than the questions you answer.

So, period on 5/23, unprotected sex on 5/31 8 days past LMP.nbsp; Sperm can live in the reproductive tract for upwards of 5 days so the latest sperm could still be in your reproductive tract is 6/5 I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt and not saying 6/4 so being really liberal.nbsp; Let's assume you ovulated but, since you have irregular periods this is not very sound since we cannot pinpoint your exact O date and the sperm fertilized the egg at that latest time in their lifecycle, 6/5.Implantation can occur 710 days after ovulation. Again, let's use the latest date, so, let's say implantation occurred on 6/15 and your body started producing hcg at that time.nbsp; hcg is detectable in blood prior to urine, but it is detectable in urine at very low levels I had a positive home pregnancy test post miscarriage when my beta hcg was only 6 some tests can detect very low levels of hcg.nbsp; That still means your body started producing hcg 15 days ago.nbsp; If you use the chart here https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/42877040.aspx and the above mentioned caveats that you ovulated on 6/5 then you are 25dpo.nbsp; At 18 dpo a home pregnancy test is 99 positive. At 25dpo it's probably even higher than that.I did this quickly, so if other ladies see a flaw in my dates or math please correct me.

You are right most of the people here are not experts but you came here and asked and people gave you answers. It sounds to me like you are trying to get pregnant and you don't like that everyone is telling you that you most likely are not since you are getting negative pregnancy tests. Why else would you bother tracking your cycle, I don't buy that you are tracking just because its irregular. I really hope that this is not the case and that you are not trying to get pregnant, you are a child. If you want better answers go to a professional. And quit having sex, you are 16 and you are obviously not responsible enough to use protection so abstinence is probably best for you.

I specifically said I took into account everything and I also said hypothetically. I just wanted to know. I don't know how "scientifically solid" this information is. So I asked a question.

I know it's probably confusing when you don't really have any knowledge of how this works. I'll try to lay it out simply, if that helps. (This isn't meant to sound condescending, please don't take it that way.)

Once in your cycle you will ovulate, which means your ovaries release an egg. There's approximately 1-2 days when that egg has a chance to be fertilized, and if it is it will work its way down to your uterus and it might implant. If it isn't fertilized in that very short time it dies and you are no longer fertile for that whole cycle.

The day that conception happens (sperm meets egg) is considered two weeks pregnant, so the first two weeks of pregnancy before that aren't really pregnancy at all. You're only actually pregnant for 38 weeks, not 40. The 40 assumes the general age of the egg, not the embryo.

You should be able to get a positive test by the time you're four weeks pregnant - two weeks after conception. You can definitely get a positive test by six weeks (which is what you'd be based on the timing you told us here) unless you're taking the test wrong or you're diluting your urine - but by six weeks even diluted urine should show a positive an a home pregnancy test.

Does this make sense so far? If that's the only time you had unprotected sex this cycle then that would be the day you're looking at for conception, and you would definitely test positive by now.

Again, I'm not a doctor, but I know a hell of a lot about conception and pregnancy after years of fertility treatment. It's science, plain and simple. So based on what you've told us, no, you're not pregnant, you're just having a wonky cycle which you've told us here is normal for you.

    Does that help?

    Yes it does. Thank you.

Honestly, you're not going to get anywhere by talking to her that way. Yes, she's young, and yes, she needs to be more responsible, but hopefully she's going to do everything she can to prevent pregnancy now until she's old enough and prepared enough to raise a child. Talking down to her that way isn't going to whip her into shape or anything.

    Those apps are useless.

If you don't have regular periods, then you're probably just in a longer cycle. If you've had 2 negative pregnancy tests, you're probably not pregnant or too early to tell. You can keep peeing on them if you want.

Since your urination has increased, maybe you should talk to your mother. You may have a UTI and need to be checked out.

Either way, you should probably talk to your mother. If you're sexually active, it might be time to start birth control. 16 is too young to be having babies. You have a lot of time for that!

I don't think she's trying to get pregnant. Tracking her cycles has nothing to do with wanting to have a baby. Hell, I tracked mine before I was having sex and then I tracked them after to make sure I was being safe during my fertile time.

If anything I think she's just trying to find out what's going on with her body. I remember at sixteen I didn't have a clue as to the intricacies of fertility. I knew the basics and that was all.

She's going to continue having sex no matter what anyone tells her and honestly I believe she's trying to be responsible about it, so why not? Yes she should have been on bc, but it looks to me like she's getting ready to start with that. I think talking to her like this is only going to make a negative impact.

Lots of women had their period on the same exact day and are pregnant. Your pregnancy was confirmed with a pregnancy test, so yes, you are pregnant! She did NOT have a positive pregnancy test.

She was advised to call her doctor if she is still concerned. Some obgyns will not see a patient if their period is just a few days late, especially if they are in their teens, as abnormal cycles are prevalent. The urine pregnancy test given at a doctor's office is not more sensitive than the over the counter tests that one can purchase at a store. Usually obgyns want you to be 60+ days without a period before they will consider seeing you. You're not going to get a beta hcg because you are pretty much a week late and you feel like you could be pregnant despite negative hpts.

Okay. Now a lot makes sense. The only thing is that there are certain symptoms I can't psych myself into and I've never had in my life. Like heartburn and nausea and insomnia. I didn't even know what they were until I googled them, so how could I make myself experience them?

ok so now you are fishing for us to tell you are pregnant. Seriously. Keep testing. If the test says negative then you are not KU or its too early. You can talk yourself into thinking you are pregnant to the point where you can have symptoms. Google Hysterical Pregnancy. You're welcome.

Has anyone thought that this could be complete MUD?!?!

When i was a teen I had very irregular periods. I tracked them too. My shortest cycle was 12 days, my longest was 47 days. It was awful. But having tracked my periods for a year or two it was really easy to convince my parents and my Dr to put me on birth control pills. I loved BCPs and used them for almost 20 years.

As others said trust a pregnancy test.

If you are still negative, you might want to consider getting tested for a UTI/kidney infection. I have almost symptomless UTI's - only frequent urination. which means if I miss that I have one, it sometimes spreads to my kidneys - which causes lower back pain and a general feeling of being sick. Kidney infections re easy to treat but very serious if untreated, so its worthwhile to get tested for that (a simple urine test from a Dr).

    Good luck.

Nope. Lots of teens have no clue about their cycles or about reproduction. Full grown women come onto TTGP asking if posters can tell if their gassiness means they're KU.

And the tone of OP's voice reminds me of the fear of two friends who were afraid they were pregnant.

    I think she's scared and doesn't know a lot. She's learning though!

OP, it's your right to have a healthy sex life if you want. Make sure to get on a hormonal form of birth control. You'll feel better, be more regular, and have two forms of protection if you use condoms as well. Make sure you have regular GYN checkups.
