prefolds as burp cloths

DS has outgrown his newborn prefolds and I want to use them eventually for a second child, but I've started using them as burp cloths.  I don't know if using them this way will ruin them some how.  The main concern is should I just wash them with the rest of my laundry now (in my normal detergent instead of my diaper detergent).  Will this ruin them, or perhaps just require me to prep them somehow before using them as diapers again.  Thanks.

I did the same and they seem fine, but I mostly use pretty CD safe detergents.

I've been using my small prefolds as burp cloths too.  They are a good size and more absorbent. 

Since prefolds are just cotton, I think they are hard to ruin.  I wash mine either with my diapers or loads of baby clothes.

You could use some as dedicated burp cloths too. We bought prefolds as backups to our pockets and aios and ended up using them exclusively as burp cloths. We wash with baby clothes but use the same detergent that we use for diapers.
