Trouble TTC

TTC2, ob wants to start clomid unsure of his suggestion

My DH and I have have been TTC since September 2012. I have always had very irregular periods happening every 23 months. Conceived right away with baby 1, now thinking maybe we were extremely lucky. I have been charting since last year, yet don't find that it is helping. I was having my period roughly every 2 months give or take a few days. My last period started on May 9 and latest until June 9, and my previous period prior to that was Nov 2012. I don't think I've ever gone that long in between periods. The month long period was mostly spotting, but had days that were heavier and what I would consider a "flow". I had an appt with an OB on June 10. He suggested starting on Clomid 3 weeks after this app, which would be this coming Monday, but I remain skeptical that this is an ideal solution to my missed period/anovulatory issue. He determined that there is not a fertility issue with my DH based in the fact that we got pregnant the first time, but I would still think that it could still be a factor. Things do change. For me, how would he know that my tubes aren't blocked possibly or that I don't have PCOS? No ultrasound was done, only labs drawn were TSH/FSH, which came back normal along with a normal PAP. During the discussion about clomid, he said I would start it and would come back to have progesterone levels checked, but no mention if ultrasounds being done.through research and reading on here, i find lots if you saying clomid should not be taken without US monitoring or without the supervision of an RE, so I remain skeptical that this is a solution to my issues. I would think that since my cycles are so irregular it's would make more sense to get then regulated by goings on BC it just keep trying and be patient. Any thoughts and feedback would be greatly appreciated!

  • Trust your instincts.  You should have all of the basic IF testing before starting Clomid.  This includes CD 3 blood work, HSG for you and a SA for your husband.  Things cann definitely change.  You should also be monitored by u/s and blood work while on Clomid.  Since you are not quite at the year mark,  recommend taking the next few months to look for a RE, make sure you are getting the care you deserve.
