hi ladies...so i'm stressing out about something that happened last weekend (at 1:30 am sunday morning to be exact).
short story to my question: if our pedi said he saw no signs of concussion/head inury 39 hours after a fall, does that mean there probably was no concussion? (in other words, do the effects of a concussion last a while so that IF dd had a concussion dr would have noticed?)
long story to my question: my dd, who is 15 months old, rolled off our 2.5 foot bed onto carpet. our twins had been sick for a couple of days and so needless to say, I was extremely sleep deprived. anyway, I put dd on our bed to console her because she was crying and I nodded off and awoke to a thud. I found her on the ground face down, perpendicular to the bed which I don't even know that could be--I've tried replaying the fall to see how she could have rolled off or slid off to land that way. the awful part of it is is that I didn't see how she fell or what hit the carpet first. I called the pediatric advice line and they could hear her cooing and singing and they said she was probably fine. she played for about an hour longer and went to sleep and woke up at her usual time. sunday her cold got worse, higher fever, runny nose, irritable, the works. she did vomit a few times, but only when we tried to feed her...I didn't associate the vomiting to the fall (should I have?) we took her to the pedi on Monday and turned out she had a pretty bad ear infection and the dr said he saw no signs of head injury from the fall, and that since it was from not a very high surface onto carpet, she probably didn't hurt herself much. so that brings me to my original question...since he saw no signs 39 hours after the fall, does that mean she's okay? i'm of course beating myself up over this whole thing and second guessing myself and thinking I should have taken her to urgent care on sunday even though the nurse I spoke to said she was probably fine. help!
Re: please talk me down...please!
Yeah this. 2.5ft onto carpet is pretty much a daily occurrence around here. Hell, my kid thinks it's hilarious actually and does it on purpose off the couch.
I'm not a doctor but I'm betting there's a 99.9% chance she's just fine.
If it makes you feel better my own kid feel down an entire hard floor staircase. She scraped her face pretty good, but cried a little and carried on like nothing ever happened.
It's a very normal kid thing.
