I did not realize that well water is potentially dangerous for babies. I EBF my DD who is almost 6 mos. we have been feeding her cereal for 3 weeks now. When I make her cereal I have been adding warm tap water from a well. I thought it was fine because we drink it all the time. She hasn't been sick at all. I will boil from now on, but I'm wondering what well water actually does to a little baby. Is there anything I should look for? Can't believe I did that to her!
I have a well and have been using it to fill bottles for a few weeks. I believe if you have had it checked out recently (a year or so) for small particle contamination and excess minerals and it was fine, you should be fine.
We have a well and use bottled water honestly because we didnt feel like having it tested again and even when tested yearly, a lot can happen over the span of a year. The first year they are most vulnerable to any bacteria. We will have it tested and stop using bottled water when he's a year old.
Started TTC 2/2009 Started fertility treatments 11/2010 Ovarian dysfunction, LPD, male factor 6 failed medicated IUI's Pregnant 5/2011 - Miscarriage at 6 weeks due to triploidy Decided to adopt - 6/2012 SURPRISE! Pregnant without intervention - 7/2012 Sweet Baby James Born 3/2013 Decided to be "One and Done"
....OR NOT. Pregnant 12/2018 despite birth control pills Here we go again... Due 8/26/19!
Catching a bacteria that will make them have severe food poisoning symptoms..
Radiation from decaying uranium (which is almost everywhere) it could increase stomach cancer in anyone..but babies have a weaker immune system.
Heavy metals like arsenic and lead, which nobody wants, it can make you very sick suddenly or over time.
Those are a few reasons, but any reasons for babies holds true for adults too.. so it isn't only benifical for your baby to get it checked often..but for your family.

I work for a company that tests well water.
The two BIG ones to test for are:
1. Bacteria/Ecoli
2. Nitrates
If you live in an older home, you probably want to test for lead which comes from your pipes.
You should test yearly or if your water seems off. Any questions just ask :0 I am happy to help
