Dd is 15 months. She still sleeps for about an hour to an hour and a half in the morning and about an hour in the afternoon. I'm fine with that, but currently she is being watched by MIL full time but starting September she will be at a daycare twice a week in the toddler room and I'm nervous about sleep routines and transitioning her to one nap so she's not all messed up and cranky.
Somebody told me that the daycares usually keep them occupied so she can hurdle that transition, but I don't know about that. They will obviously only do one nap and by then she will be 18 months.
There have been times where she's missed her afternoon nap and been fine but that was only 3 or 4 times. How can I successfully transition her especially if she's not ready, and when should I start to prepare for her daycare transition at end of aug
Re: Two to one nap transition
I wouldn't try to transition her if she's not ready. Yes, at daycare, they will likely keep her occupied and busy and that will help the transition but it's not something I would mess with at this point.
DS2 is in the midst of transitioning. Some days he take 1 nap and others he takes (and needs) 2. On the days he takes 1 nap, we are usually busy and he's entertained/occupied in the morning and will be completely fine and happy until close to 12:30. Then he'll nap for 3 hours and be good to go until bedtime. If we don't have plans and are just around the house, he'll start acting tired around 9:30 and sleep for an hour and a half then take another hour and a half nap that afternoon.
I'm letting him take the lead because everyone ends up miserable on the days I try to push for 1 nap when we're home. Daycare can do wonders for kids...they'll behave completely differently for their teachers than for you and they have lots of tricks up their sleeve to help with that transition.
