S/O music, covers

I love cover songs.  I love to hear the different arrangements and vocal stylings of the same song.  What are some of your favorite covers?  Some of mine are;

Johnny Cash - Hurt

Fever Ray - Mercy Street

Placebo - Running Up That Hill

I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

"It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn't use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like "What about lunch?" - A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh

Re: S/O music, covers

  • My all time favorite cover is All Along the Watchtower by Hendrix.

I love most covers of To Make You Feel My Love (orig. Dylan) and Thank You (orig. Zep).

Higher Ground (RHCP) is a great cover, too.

  • I had to think for a bit. I forget which songs are covers when they are better than the originals. I hope I'm not wrong about these being cover songs.

Janis Joplin- Me and Bobby McGee

    GNR- Live and Let Die

    Soft Cell- Tainted Love

Cyndi Lauper- Girls Just Want to Have Fun

Joan Jett- I Love Rock 'n Roll

I had no idea Girls Just Wanna Have Fun was a cover!  What do we think of Dave Matthews Band cover of All Along The Watchtower?

    The Fugees Killing me Softly.

This should be on my list too. Love, love, love this song. It's on my summer hanging out in the backyard mix.

  • Off the top of my head, Alanis's cover of Crazy by Seal, The Fugee's Killing Me Softly, and Limp Bizkit's cover of Faith by George Michael.

Also, I usually find that I like Glee's covers better than some of the original songs.

I love Me First and the Gimme Gimmies.

Just checked them out.  They have covered every awesome song ever made!  One of their songs reminded me of another awesome cover.  Come Sail Away by Eric Cartman

I also like the Wallflowers cover of Into the Mystic.

    Adam Lambert- Mad World

I'm skeptical, but I trust you enough to give it a try.

Ok, just listened. Not bad, but not as good as the original or Gary Jules version.

The Gary Jules version of Mad World is totally awesome.

  • A lot of good ones were mentioned above. A few more:

Fiona Apple - Across the Universe

Aimee Mann and Michael Penn - Two of Us (Actually most of the I am Sam soundtrack was really good)

Tiger Army - Twenty Flight Rock and American Nightmare

    Old 97s - El Paso

Travis - Hit Me Baby One More Time (sounds absurd but it kind of works)

The Corrs - Where the Stars Go Blue

The Little Willies (most of their songs are covers)

Pixies - Head On (I think theirs is better than the original ::ducks::)

Almost anything Elvis covers (too many to list, he sang EVERYTHING, lol)

Robert Gordon - Something's Gonna Happen

Mike Ness - Don't Think Twice (or really any Bob Dylan cover, I love Dylan's songs but don't love his voice ::duck again::)
