Minnesota Babies

St. Anthony/ NE Mpls child care

Has anyone sent their child to the Jack and Jill child care center in St. Anthony/Roseville? I am currently pregnant (due in December) and looking for daycare for my little one. With my crazy work schedule I think a center would work best but would be open to a home-based day care if it is the right fit. I live in NE Minneapolis (closer to the Columbia Heights/St. Anthony border). Thanks!

  • Oh, I'm interested if anyone has used this center, too! We do in home now, but once my LO is a bit older, I plan to look at it closer as a daycare and preschool option. Of the short research that I've done, it seems to have positive reviews!

  • I have heard a lot of good things about it as well.  We toured there a little over 2 years ago when I was pregnant with my LO so my limited experience is a bit outdated now.

Our impressions were that the toddler and preschool rooms were awesome.  The infant room however just felt like they had too many babies.  We unfortunately were there right around feeding time so everyone was hungry and crying to be fed at the same time.  The teachers were preparing bottles and feeding as fast as they could.  But the amount of babies crying on the floor just didn't sit well with us at the time.  We ended up choosing a center with smaller class sizes.

You could also check out David's Christian Learning Center in Columbia Heights.  That's where we ended up.  The infant room has more babies in it now than it did when we started but the teachers are fantastic.  They're located in St. Matthew Church near Huset Park.

    Good luck with your search!

  • Thanks! I appreciate it!
  • My friend's son goes there and has since he was an infant, now 2. They love it. It was her top pick and she highly recommends it. Another good one a little further north was Bethel's program, this was her 2nd pick.
  • Thanks again, all!
  • My daughter has gone to J&J since she was 3 months old. I can't say ENOUGH about how much I love this center.  Everyone is great - and I they have taught her more sign language than I even KNOW!    The infant rooms scared me too - but they are so great at getting them on a set schedule and knowing your child. It's wonderful.
  • My daughter goes to Jack and Jill. She is 12 months now and she has been there since she was 3 months old.  She has been in the infant room and although it was really hard for me to leave her, in the end they just do a great job. My husband and I visited a TON of centers and a couple in-home daycares and we decided on J&J because the kids just seemed sooo happy there! Another thing about them, although more spendy than in-home daycares, you can do 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 day schedule. We started with 3-days a week and worked really well. Also, I got laid off a couple of weeks after maternity leave and they told me that they would keep my spot and not worry about anything. I work from home now and still take her there once a week. Every time she sees her baby-infant room caregiver she squeals and is so happy to see her. I would recommend it.
