Poop

LO has had the poops since Saturday. Every single diaper is poopy. They seem a bit less watery than they were Saturday, but it's still diarrhea every diaper.
She doesn't have a fever, isn't acting sick, still eating and drinking ok. Definitely not dehydrated.
We are leaving town tomorrow for a mini vacation. WWYD?

Re: Poop

  • Is she cutting teeth and drooling a lot?  When DD was cutting her first couple of teeth, she was producing so much extra saliva it actually caused her poop to turn liquidy and she started having diaper leaks several times a day.  It lasted until the teeth finally cut through.

If not that, and you can't pinpoint anything in your diet that is new and might have caused it, I might call the pedi just to get the "yeah, there's nothing we can do about it, just keep her hydrated" reassurance before you go.   And pack a lot of extra clothes and diapers!

She is cutting 4 teeth right now. But even so, she's hardly drooling. It's more drool than normal for her but less drool than a normal baby who isn't teething. She is not a drooler.
I can't spot anything in either of our diets that might be causing it.

She may just be a good swallower and getting the drool down that way from teething. She may also be drinking more if its hot where you are and pooping more from that too.
  • My first thought was teething too.

We've been trying to keep her on easy to digest foods, BRAT diet and as much breast milk as she wants. If everyone thinks teething, should we go back to normal foods?

Definitely could be teething. Especially if 4 are coming in at the same time. Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure the BRAT diet isn't recommended anymore. I would let LO eat normally. It also can't hurt just to call the pedi and see what they think.

Hmm. Our pedi has recommended it recently. Either way, I'm pretty sure bananas and multigrain toast is a better bet than sloppy joes no matter what your poop status is. I seriously question some of these school lunches!

  • I think it is possible to get a diarrhea bug without having a fever and vomiting. It happened to D once. No way teething would cause it. I think the only thing to do is help with BRAT foods as you have been and keep her hydrated. With D, it only bothered him when the poop gave him a wicked diaper rash. That is the only time he really has ever had one.

It lasted about a week, so hopefully you will be out of the woods soon.

If you haven't already, I would feed E yogurt or probiotic daily.

I hope E is back to normal soon!

  • It's funny you posted this. We just returned from vacation and we were at higher altitudes, like 8800 feet. Grayson had four, yes four, poops in one day at DC yesterday! He usually only poops once a day. I thought it might be the elevation change but he is also teething and drooling a lot, so that may be contributing too. I hope it's nothing and you can all enjoy your vacation!
