DD is 3 months old. She sleeps 12 hours at night (with 2 feeds in there). But we are having such a problem with daytime sleep. She wake up happy and smiley and within an hour or two, the whole rest of the day is spent being cranky, crying, doing a 20 minute nap and waking up crying, or in a daze. I thought she was getting overtired and therefor couldn't sleep, so I tried putting her to sleep within 45 minutes of waking up in the morning. She wouldn't sleep! I brought her up t nursery, swaddled her, shut the blinds, rocked until very sleepy, and put her in her crib, but then she'd be wide awake. So then I forgot trying to put her down drowsy and fed her and rocked her, intending to only put her down once she was out, but that didn't knock her out either. Finally I tried again and she fell asleep for 40 minutes but woke up grumpy and not refreshed. I fed her and now she's still acting tired. I feel like I am totally missing something here. HELP!!
Re: Daytime sleep issues- help!!
Unfortunately, this sounds like pretty typical 3-4 month behavior when it comes to naps. I disagree with the PP though. I believe it is important to start trying to put baby down awake. For a few babies always rocking to sleep will never cause a problem but for most it will ultimately lead to a baby who wakes constantly because they have no ability to self soothe. This is why soooo many people end up turning to full blown CIO methods (nothing wrong with that BTW when your baby is old enough)
I HIGHLY recommend this blog:

(can't make clicky because I'm Ipad)
It's really helpful, talks about normal sleep behavior and things you should work toward at each age.
