Car seat for toddler?

We have two cars.  In my car, where my LO rides most of the time, we have a Diono, which we love.  In my husband's car, we have an Evenflo (I think?).  Anyway, it's a convertible seat.  I noticed last week that my LO seems to be too tall for it.  The shoulder straps are adjusted to the highest slot, but they are still below his shoulders.  

I am not sure if we want to invest in another Diono since it's a bit pricey and my son rarely rides in my husband's car.  Does anyone have a recommendation for a good car seat that will convert to a booster?   I'd like this to be the last one we have to buy.  Thanks!

The straps are supposed to be coming from below his shoulders for RF. He's too tall if he hits the stated heigh max in your manual or if his head is within an inch of the top of the shell.
