Ugh, so frustrating! We just switched ds (2.5 yrs) and dd (6 months--just started) to a new daycare center and dd is already sick after 1 week. We were up all night from congestion. I thought maybe we'd catch a break since it's summer. What's really crappy though is that ds (who has been in a home daycare before this) has been sick almost nonstop since January and this is his first sick-free month, and he is scheduled to have his adenoids removed and another nasal and GI procedure next week (b/c of all the sickness). If he gets this, then we need to postpone the surgeries, which were difficult to schedule since two different docs are coordinating procedures. Anyhow, just a vent I guess. I get to call in sick today again. I swear, I'm lucky I still have a job.
Re: One week at daycare and already sick
Thanks, we do have back-up care as a benefit, which is a great option if needed. But it's hard to use for a sick 6 month old (older kids would be easier). Plus, it's $16/hour which would be on top of our already insanely high daycare costs (3.5k per month!).
Have you asked your pedi about allergies? DD2 was congested all.the.time her 1st yr and at 10 mo we were finally able to put her on Zyrtec. This helped a lot. Fortunately, this yr, she is rarely effected.
I wouldn't take off work each time for congestion. Only if she falls into the parameters of not being allowed to attend DC.
I think that when ds has his procedures done, the GI is testing for all allergies as well. Basically, he truly can't breathe well at all through his nose from his adenoids and nasal passages (is having a turbinoplasty along with adenoid removal). And then he also is a terrible eater and has bad reflux which we hope is controlled well, but who knows, so GI is doing a biopsy of esophagus and testing for allergies. As for dd, I sure hope it's just a cold and she has an easier path than ds has...
