I've run across something on my baby blanket pattern that I've not seen before and could really use some help! Anyone know how to pick up stitches to add a side border? I've watched a few YouTube videos, but I think I'm missing something...
It's pretty hard to explain without being able to also show you, but this is the video I watched to explain to to me. It shows how to do it on both the horizontal and vertical edges.nbsp;Anytime I have a knitting question, I look through her videos first. She seems to be the best at explaining as she shows the technique.I hope that helps!nbsp;ETA: Link:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XtGL8vJfgnbsp;
This is really helpful! I was just trying to put stitches on the needle from what was there, not using a working yarn. And then I either couldn't get enough stitches for what the pattern said or had too many, depending on which video I was following. Maybe it's the do 3, skip 1, etc. that will make the difference!
The edges are stockinette, yes. The other thing I'm trying to figure out is where the top and bottom border is already on the blanket, do I start picking up stitches around the place I'd fold it down to sew? Or at the very corner of the top/bottom border?
I honestly have no idea. I've only ever done borders that were consistent all the way around (with the exception of the increases at the corners) and there was no sewing involved. Sorry I can't help more! I hope someone else can be more useful.
There are also knitting forums out there when you can ask your question, but I've never ventured into any of them.
I *think* from one of her pictures, that I do start where it folds for the pick-ups. I'll give it a shot with your video and worst case scenario, I'll have to take it out again and venture to my Nana's for in person help this weekend.
It can be trick, but remember, you can always rip it out. My first try always seems to go bad but then the second try looks good. It's like I get the hang of it.
