Or Aubrey John.
All are family names but I think the middle name is just so dull.
Suggestions?
I should add I am helping my cousin name her kid, not my spawn. And yes she is open to suggestions, we are emailing back and forth, this is not me being nebby or overbearing. Thanks.
Re: Aubrey James
This.
I would never consider it for a boy at this day and age.
I actually thought you were choosing a name for a girl and wanted to mix up the middle with a "masculine" name...

I love the name Aubrey, as a man's name. But as pp mentioned, it's gone to the girls and I think he will have a challenging time growing up with 3 other girl Aubrey's in his class.
Exactly. I was confused why someone would use mn James or John for a girl and was going to suggest saving that family name for their son. I don't see Aubrey on a boy at all. Sounds very feminine and the only Aubreys I know are girls. Never knew it was traditionally a boy's name.
I like Aubrey James.
Still a boy name! And someone on my BMB just used it for her son.
I like it. I know a little boy named Aubrey.
Unfortunately his mom spent 90% of her time explaining the history of the name. I'm not sure I would use it but I do like it. This whole boy names for girls trend really screws things up.
I prefer Aubrey James.
I think I might love you a little bit...
I really like Aubrey James. Name your boy that start stealing it back from stupid parents naming their girls with boy names.
Growing up I only knew one Aubrey and it was a girl, so I have always thought that this was a girls name. I never had any idea that it was every a boys name. That said, I wouldn't put it on a boy just because of my experience with the name. I'm sure if I met a boy with the name I would be able to change my mind, but right now it is all girl to me.
I would, however, name a boy Ashley, Leslie, or maybe even Shannon.

Agree! I do think it has become a unisex name but I wouldn't hesitate to use for a boy.

Although it's totally a double standard, I think girls have an easier time with boys names than boys have with 'girl' names (in life in general, but especially in school years.) I went to school with a boy named Ashley and even though he was super athletic and one of the 'cool' kids, he still got teased for his name. If he wasn't so popular, the bullying probably would have been merciless.
I don't dislike the name Aubrey for a boy, but since it's become a more recognized girls' name, I wouldn't go with it. Perhaps you can switch Aubrey to the mn spot and go with James Aubrey?
I'm not a huge fan of the name Aubrey. All of the Aubreys I know are girls and I've always thought it sounded like someone got the d backwards on Audrey.
To continue bucking the system (zipping up flame retardant suit), I think James sounds like a girl's name. I know it's for boys; I'm familiar with world history and it's used frequently in my family. It just has a soft, rounded, feel to it that I associate with a girls name. I can't really explain it. I know my opinion is "wrong" but it's just what I feel.
