Parenting after a Loss

Dealing with the heat

I live in Indiana, not the hottest of places, but it gets pretty humid. I live in southern indiana right now.

It gets around 70-80-90 degrees here lately with tons of humidity. We have an air conditioner in our bedroom, but that's about it. DH sleeps during the day because he has work at night...

Anyone have things I can do to try to help Vince stay cool? He's almost 3 months... I've kept him sans clothes most the time, with a fan with a mister on it and also cool moist blankets... but he wants to be held, and I feel so badly that I start to sweat and that makes him more hot...

Any tips?

  • I would purchase some more fans, I find that box fans work really well. If its in the budget, perhaps purchase another AC unit for the room that your usually in during the day.

  • Additional a/c if you can swing it (Craigslist for a used one, maybe?) and fans up the wazoo?  Or a daily afternoon tepid bath session for splashtastic fun?

  • When DS was first born last summer, we had several 100+ days with extreme humidity (NJ here).. I just kept him sprinkled with powder to help with the sticky-ness.. we have central air, so that keeps it "cool" but the humidity is even worse than the high temps sometimes!  We're already in the 90's here now.. again, I keep powder handy.  Maybe you could put in a ceiling fan in the room you use the most?  You can get a good one for like $60 -- we just bought another one for the new nursery!

I agree, I'd totally steal the ac. Also, I find if it is hot and I put a light muslin blanket between E and I that helps with the stick. I love the muslin blankets. They're good for everything!

I love the Aden Anais blankets. Definitely cool and breathable. If Jackson didn't try and eat the whole blanket we would use those vs his Minky blankets. But AC is on with ceiling fan
