We went with a family practitioner so we wouldn't have to find one specifically for the baby when he was born. I would check if they accept your insurance, if they are comfortable handling newborns, if they are accepting new patients, and how long they have been practicing. Ask for recommendations from fam or friends. Just as long as you're comfortable with them!
I narrowed down our pediatricians through location and who accepted our insurance. Afterward, I checked the reviews online and asked my friends for their recommendations. Often times, most of your questions (about their feelings on vaccinations or sick/non-sick waiting rooms or whatever) can be answered on their websites. If you don't know what questions to ask, check their FAQ section--where other people's questions already are.
But, as PP said, most importantly is how comfortable you are with them.
This website has a great questionnaire for pediatricians. See the link below I also asked how easy it is to get in the same day with a sick child, and if they have weekend or special hours during the cold and flu season. I love having a nurse line as well. It was also important to me that the doctor was part of AAP.
