really? ?my ped says 3!!! ?I'm pretty sure he isn't allergic as we have given him things that have had nuts in it just not peanut butter. ?I hate going against what my ped says but I was thinking of giving it to him when he turns two in a few months.
I couldn't imagine waiting until 3 - a pb&j is Luc's favorite sandwich. I know people who have kids who are severly allergic with no family history, so you might want to be careful.
I gave Nora a tiny bit of peanut butter when she was around 10 months old. (I was eating a PB sandwich and she was begging for a bite). She instantly had a bad reaction. We now have to carry an epi pen and avoid all peanut things. I'm sure it wasn't because she was 10 months, though. FIL is also allergic to peanuts.
DS was about 18 months old. I did it because he was going to start attending a NON nut-free daycare and I wanted to expose him at my home first to make sure he wasn't allerigc (he wasn't). FYI: I cannot remember what my own pediatrician said but one of my best friends is a pedi, and she started giving it to her daughter shortly after her 1st b-day because a) there was no history of allergies, and b) her daughter was small and not a big eater and she was willing to risk it, in order to get the benefits of a good protein source. Just thought that was interesting...
15 months. Our Pedi recommended restricting until 3 if we had any history of food allergies (we dont), but otherwise left it up to us after 1 and was not terribly converned about it. He was of the mindset that it is a real concern, but at the same time, been around for ever and a perfect staple food for kids. He did present the different reasons for waiting and said it was our informed decision to make.
