XP: Your favorite developmental toys and books for the first year.

LO is almost 3 months old and I have a couple of toys and beginner books to play with him, but I would love some suggestions and recommendations.  What are you favorite toys and books?  If you can clarify with an age range, like best to start 3-6 months or 6-12 months, that would be great too!

Our LO will be 4 months next week.  He's just now really responding to toys.  He likes the O Ball (easy for his little fingers to grasp), the Winkle ball (good for him to chew on), and the Lamaze musical inchworm (he likes to wrangle this with his arms & legs).  Just gave him Sophie the Giraffe teether today & it was a hit.  I also got him a little musical stuffed puppy and he will hug it and chew on the paws.  I read him books every day but I haven't really noticed any one in particular that he likes.  He does seem to like the words/cadence from Moo, Baa, La, La, La.
