Dumb question about introducing solids

I'm a new working mom so pardon the silly question. I'm starting DS on solids next week at 5 mos. my question is ... Do you introduce new foods at night while youre home or let your care taker do it? My concern is
Mostly around allergic reactions ... Not sure if its better to do at night while I'm there or during the day when I'm
Not so we have all day to
Monitor a reaction . In nervous about food allergies bc my nieces and nephews have them..

I think it is fine to just get them started at home at either dinnertime or breakfast time till you feel more comfortable. After a few weeks, you can then give those foods to the caretaker to give at lunch.

  • We introduced all solids during dinner time with DS1. I would nurse at 5:30pm when we got home, solids around 7pm, and nurse to sleep around 8pm. After we went through everything and DS1 was taking them well, we sent breakfast into school.

We will so the same with DS2 when we start solids. Probably the weekend after the 4th. Not sure, lol.

Since we both work full time we only felt comfortable giving her new foods on the weekends and in the morning. That way we could monitor her for any possible reactions.

This is how we did it.  Also, starting solids can cause gas or stomach aches so starting in the morning allows you to monitor that as well without impacting their night time sleep.

We also did all new foods on the weekends, so I could monitor. I would intro on Saturday, at breakfast or after nap, so she would be awake for a few hours, and then feed it to her again on Sunday.

Great ideas.. Ill start on weekends then. Thanks ladies !
  • We did new foods at dinnertime, but my LO was pretty resistant to solids for awhile, so I didn't send any to school for the first month or two. When I finally started sending them, he ate them happily there! So there were definitely a few foods that he had first at daycare because he refused them at home.

  • In our parent handbook, it states that all food sent into day care must be eaten at least three times at home prior to being sent to school.

After LO turned 6 months it was food 2x a day then 3x a day really fast. You can keep 'new' food for dinner and send in 'old' food for lunch and breakfast
