I've just received an excellent job offer that I plan to accept. We'll be moving half way across the country (but back to my home state!). I will start at the end of July so I will need my last day of work to be Friday July 19th so that I have time to move. Typically I would give my two weeks notice Friday July 5th....but because it's the day after a holiday (and my boss has a planned vacation day) I'm wondering if it would still be considered 'two weeks notice' if I gave my notice on the next Monday morning? I do not want to give my notice before my boss goes on vacation (the 3rd) in case they opt to not have me work my two weeks out (I don't want to lose out on the holiday).
So, would you consider giving notice on July 8th with the last day of July 19th a full two weeks? How bad is it to email or call my boss on vacation to give notice? Or should I just give my notice to whomever is available in HR on that day?
If it makes any difference I'm in management but I am the only employee in my department thanks to lay-offs earlier this year.
